First: what's a Gal? Pretty obviously it's a girl... Gal (in Japanese is actually "gyaru" or ギャル . The world "girl" in English was adopted into Japanese, but it is pronounced Japanese style to make it compatible with their sounds: gy-a-ru ... The Gyaru phenomenon started mid '90s with rather rich high school girls who would die their hair blond and go to tanning salons regularly. They would up their high school skirts into mini-skirts and wear baggy high socks.
