I can remember picking up a street WG many years ago. I was on holiday at the time about 800km from home.
These were pre ATM days too.
Anyway I did the deed in the back seat, all good, got dressed and dropped of the WG.
On the way back to where I was staying I decided to get something to eat.
I nice resturant presented itself and because I was on holiday I was going to treat myself.
Bottle of wine, over 2 courses of seafood and a tasty desert I felt like a king.
Then it happened. No bulge. No bulge ion my pocket where my wallet should be. Out to the car after a quick explanation at the paypoint and I searched that car 237 times. The trunk , under the bonnet, you name it I searched for it. All gone. No Id and less than $4 in the ashtray 800km from home on a Friday night and no access to a bank until monday not that I could get money from them anyway cause my bankbook was at home.
So I thooght to myself" I have to manage this"
I went back into the resturant and asked to use their phone and telephone book. I looked up the local Police telephone number and called them saying there was a customer at the resturant who didnt have money to pay for the bill. I then went back to my table and ordered another drink..lol
The Police turned up about 20 mins later. I approached and told them I had made the call and that I was the customer without money.
I didnt tell them how I lost my wallet just that it was gone and I didnt have any money until I could get my parente to transfer some to me on Monday. I asked the Police to check the rego on my car to make sure I was the registered owner and to call my parents and ask them to describe me and the car etc etc.
The Police did all of this. They were really good about it. I also asked them to witness my written promise to pay the resturant. I wrote 3 of these out and gave one to the Police , one to the resturant owner and I kept one.
The Police said they had never had anyone do anything like this before and trusted I would pay. The resturant owner was surprised too and gave me $100 to tide me over until Monday and I added that to the agreement. (BTW $100 was a lot of money back then considering my weekly pay was $90/week at the time)
Monday arrived, I finally got access to some money, paid the resturant, went to the Police station and signed off on the deal and everyone lived happily ever after. Oh and the Police actually gave me a letter to replace my licence for an interim period until I could get a replacement.
Good things can always come from bad but at the end of the day it was a lot of effort and very costly for a quick backseat fuck ...lol | |
