Speaking of surveillance, I was caught once too.
My ATF WG and I became close (too close) and she became an unpaid GF. We were head over heels in love (so we thought) and I was preparing to leave my wife anyway. The catch was the WG turned GF was also married (I knew this) and he kind of "managed" her business and knew all about me as a customer. Yes, the brilliant guy I am was playing with double fire...a wife on the inside and a jealous husband on the outside.
Turns out the husband was surveiling the girl's phone and email regulary. As the evidence went from typical WG-punter banter to expressions of affection, he confronted her, she admitted the relationship, they separated, etc.
I also separated from my wife and was trying to terminate the marriage without her knowing about the GF (wishful thinking).
Late one night, dude called my wife and told her. They met the next day and he laid out everything...showed her dozens of printed emails, cell phone pics, everything. He even had this detailed account of everytime the GF and I met...date, time and place.
After a week, the wife finally confronted me and I was busted...and pissed...not only did she know about the affair, but she saw all these love poems and shit and she was devastated. I wanted to leave her, but not crush her. Anyway, I thought the husband was way over the top and a real jackass for sharing all that. But I was in the wrong, so I can't preach (although dude was pimping out his wife, so he was not exactly in a position of moral superiority).
Well, ultimately the GF and I broke up, wife and I went to counseling, I moved back in, relationship is better, blah, blah (and I think GF and hubby are still together too). But what always puzzled me was this detailed list of our dozens of rendezvous over about 5 months. During the break-up phase I confronted the GF...Wtf, do you and hubby have some sick game going on here? Did you tell him everything? She insisted no and I finally figured it out....
After counseling started and I had sworn off the GF and things were on the mend at home, I was talking with the GF for almost the last time and she seduced me one last time. (Like I said, I'm brilliant.) I was at work in the city and she told me to go outside. I did and there was a taxi waiting for me. The driver took me to her place which is in a small suburb (she was still separated) and we did the deed one last time. It was brief and then she called the same driver to take me back to work in the city. We're talking 90 minutes total round trip.
A half hour later, wife called me at work. She said hubby had called her and insisted that GF and I met again. She told him that wasn't possible because I was at work, she had talked to me earlier, etc. He then told her that the taxi company called him to say she had gone from the suburb to the city. (Thankfully the taxi company didn't have the correct story.) I said, whatever, and disclaimed any knowledge, which the wife bought.
During our relationship the GF didn't have a driver's license and always took taxis. Because she lived in a small town with few taxi options, she always called the same driver and when he wasn't on shift, his company.
So I called her and told her what my wife said. Then I asked her who this driver is anyway? "My mother in law's friend owns the company," she says, "so I always use them because they give me extra good service." Doh!!!!!  I tell her your husband has a set up with the dispatcher that they tell him everywhere you go! She was beside herself.
