Recently a landlord from Fuji building in Causeway Bay was taken to the police station for an incident that happened over at Fuji. This chick that works on what I believe is the 3rd floor started dating a white dude which did not want her to work any more at her place so the chick stopped going to work and gave notice to the landlord that she was not going to continue any more so her landlord wanted to hold her deposit for early termination. The tenant had one more month left so she did not pay the last months rent. Landlord came in opened the door and locked herself in not allowing tenant to enter. When police arrived the police asked who called in and the tenant along with the landlord both said that they had called in. Police ended up taking landlord to police station lol.. instead of tenant. Tenant wanted to use her deposit money to pay for last months rent and landlord insisted that she had to pay the last months rent. Landlord said deposit was security money that could not be deducted from rent and that deposit would be returned at end of contract if tenant had no broken contract rules. If I am not mistaken contract was up as well.
Complicated issue as the law states that one person can rent and work out of their flat but the landlord can not split one unit into 5 and rent to working girls as then he would be running and profiting from prostitution. This is why others just rent single hotel rooms to try and get around this. It is legal when it is individually rented but not legal when it is run as a business to profit from working girls because of this many of these landlords do not sign rental contracts with these girls because this could work against them in court.
