The Shopping at the Yue Hwa Chinese Emporium Excuse
Did you know that the last Yue Hwa Chinese Emporium store left in HK is the one that is in on the intersection of Jordan Road and Nathan Road, Jordan? Standing outside this store, one can see Sands Sauna across the street and K-Pressure and Temple Street Sauna are a just a few blocks away.
So what is the significance of the Yue Hwa Chinese Emporium, you say? Well to the many overseas Chinese guys who reside in HK, we eventually have to go home and visit the relatives. Most relatives always ask us to buy things like Chinese-branded underwear for the elderly, Chinese down comforters, Chinese branded medicine, handicrafts and so on for their behalf. And we always had to go to a Yue Hwa Chinese Emporium because there is no where else that sells most of these stuff. Thankfully for us HK island types, the 2nd-to-last Yue Hwa store closed for good in Central.
Now we have a great excuse to explain to our SOs why we have to go to Jordan. It also makes a great excuse for those who are visiting HK with families. Need to make an errand for the relatives. And Yue Hwa Chinese Emporium is not a chic, modern store most visiting families want to visit in the first place except to help out granddad. These families would rather go to the modern giant malls.
The best way to take advantage of this place is to go buy what you have to buy first at the emporium, then leave the goods with the cashier for later pickup (not too late as they do close at about 9.30pm) after mongering as it would look silly to be carrying alot of those Yue Hwa bags to K-Pressure. | |
