So it would seem everyone here would dissuade peeps from hitting up the Wan Chai bars and clubs.

What's the big problem? Quality of girls? Price? Dangerous?

They are very expensive and are geared up for getting money off gweilos , I had a bimble around and it varied from $1500 - $3000 , when a hotel WG is $5-1000 , and walkups are $350-$700 , they are far too expensive and often from what I can see philipinas.

Let's say there are exceptions - I mean, if you know where to go and how to protect yourself you can avoid being ripped off - but that's the exception.  

Go for the hunting, not for the catch.  

As Kennichi says, once you know this db there's no comparison.  

The main drawback is really just the price. Standard price range from what I have found is around $1500. And unless you have a hotel room already or you are willing to bring them home you will have to fork out another couple $100 bills for a love hotel. Also, if you prefer Chinese girls there are a few, but not many.

As Kennichi rightly points out these bars are set up to mainly to attract visitors to HK with limited local knowledge and cash to burn.

However, I do like to hit Fenwick's every once in a while for a change of pace.

First of all you have the variety of girls. Apart from Phillippinas (which do dominate the scene) you can find South Americans, black girls, and possibily Eastern Europeans as well.

Secondly, you can think of these bars as really the only "fish bowls" in all of HK.

Third, you have the chance to chat up the girl first rather than just make a choice based on a picture or quick look. I have gotten pretty good GFE most times with girls I picked up in Wan Chai.

Finally, it's a bar, smack in the middle of an area with plenty of regular bars as well. So it's ideal for a boys' night out if you want to hunt in a pack and discuss potential targets amongst each other. And as it's a fully public place - unlike a brothel - there is really no pressure to pick anyone if you don't find a girl to your liking.

There are 2 types of bars in Wanchai ... the ones like Fenwick / Neptune where you go & hopefully pick up girls at the right price
or the Suzie Wong type where you get picked up, dragged in and they proceed to relieved of all your belongings ...

I actually enjoy going down on those special occasions when there's a naval ship in the harbour ... not to hunt but to watch the feeding frenzy

Gonna go to HK next month again. Never been in Wan Chai clubs and bars before. Will try it out .

Yes Fenwick's closed down in late March 2009. Their bar licence was not renewed because of too many incidents at this seedy establishment

The girls in the db a too numerous and easy to hook-up with, in 6 yearsof 1 to 2x per week, only once did I get suspecious that a wg mightlift something from my wallet- I was tired after an extensive round andI let her shower first.  I had a funny feeling so I left the showerdoor open--nothing missing, but she had gone through my phone (I knowthis because the contacts were open and and screen lite) and my HKID was upside-down.  Never went back to her.  Never, ever have I felt any physical danger or worry, even in the more seedy places; day, night-never

I might be paranoid, but once a year in the newspapers there is somepoor gweilo visiting hk who is found dead and foaming at the mouth inhis hotel room.  the crimes are never solved, but the security camerasalways show these guys coming back to their room with a girl ortwo......  one year the victim was some police big-wig from a europeancountry (?norway?), even he could not tell what was going on......
