A prostitute was killed in a Tsuen Wan flat early yesterday morning - the fifth sex worker murdered in one-woman brothels this year.
The body of the victim, 43, who operated a one-woman brothel on San Tsuen Street and was known as Ah Heung, was found in a flat on the third floor of a residential building at 12.30am. A woman believed to be her landlady made the discovery when she went to check the flat because the lights had been on for a long time, a source at the scene said. The victim was certified dead at the scene.

The woman, surnamed Hui, is the fifth prostitute to have been murdered in the city this year. In March, four prostitutes were killed in Yuen Long, Tai Po and North Point
Officers said the woman had head injuries and was strangled, and the flat had been ransacked.
The source at the scene said officers seized a blood-stained bed sheet, a blanket, a mirror, a comb and a videotape for further investigation.

The body was removed from the unit at about 6pm. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to identify the cause of death.
Police officers cordoned off the building overnight and conducted surveys in the area to collect more information about the case.

A spokeswoman for non-governmental organisation Zi Teng, which provides help to sex workers, said it had already contacted all sex workers who operated one-woman brothels in its Tsuen Wan network and reminded them to be careful

"We have called them and informed them about this murder case and reminded them to stay alert. We distributed newsletters to our members last week and we visited the unit concerned in the case too," she said.
"We are still trying to get more information about the victim and the case so that we can share the information with our members and they can better protect themselves when doing business."
The group is worried that more prostitutes running one-woman brothels could be robbed amid the gloomy economy. "Desperate robbers tend to target one-woman brothels, as they know these women work alone," she said. "We have already recorded three robbery cases involving our members this month."

How can a life be so cheap that some sicko can just throw it away for a few thousand HK$?  Most people assumes it's one person but I would be surprised if there is only one desperate sicko in HK capable of doing this.

I'm not very keen on the medieval retribution if caught, I have a jaundiced view of police in many parts of the world and would always have the suspicion someone was stitched up by lazy cops.

I suggest all prostitutes wear a special electronic necklace or bracelet that, when pulled off, will trigger an alarm and phone the police.

Hong Kong government also needs to repeal laws and allow more than one girl to work in a flat.  When these ladies are all alone and with thousands of dollars lying around, they're inviting trouble.

Bearing in mind to the best of our knowledge, the serial prostitute killer back in March was caught and has been locked away.  Though the Police are rightly taking precautions on the matter incase he kills again, I don't think we should be jumping to conclusions that this is necessarily going to be a serial killer and there is every possibility that there was a dispute or something between the killer and victim leading to the murder.  Prostitution is a seedy business afterall.  But, I wouldn't like to be caught in a Police raid legally carrying out my business or not, it wouldn't be very pleasant being interrupted doing my thing and being interrogated by police

Also I can't help but think that some politicians are going to jump on this opportunity to attempt to greatly reduce prostitution on Hong Kong and point the finger of blame at 141.
