Congrats to the new mods.

Some ideas about the forum off the top of my head:

1. what is the deal with the sbooks section?  It is all the way at the top of the homepage and seems pretty useless.
2. what is the digest feature?  A post getting on the digest grants you 10 karma, but I have never seen this feature being used?
3. In the forum guidelines, some instructions are outdated.  For example, members with under 300 credits have 30 RA.
4. is there a feature to delete posts?
5. a lot of the best polls in the mongering talk and lounge are from 2012, maybe we can have some new ones or annual polls.
6. the mongering talk and lounge areas seem to have the same function... maybe merge them or make their differences more  clear?
7. The acceptance points being 1/20th of a credit actually makes them very pointless... I would get rid of this altogether.  1 karma for a basic rating seems better.  Would encourage participation

Again, congrats to the new mods and thank you all mods for your work.

Yes the acceptance pts should be changed to be worth more than 1/20. Maybe like

1/4 of a Kama pt.

Also like to include height in the template for reports.

I might be mistaken, I thought this thread or another thread had some pertinent stuff on perks being a MOD. I guess the thread must been deleted or edited.  Can find the info...

1. what is the deal with the sbooks section?  It is all the way at the top of the homepage and seems pretty useless.
I believe this has to do with ads and affects revenues for the board, so this is a question for administrators.

2. what is the digest feature?  A post getting on the digest grants you 10 karma, but I have never seen this feature being used?
I have not heard or used the digest feature.  We can check with other senior members on how a post is chosen for "digest".

3. In the forum guidelines, some instructions are outdated.  For example, members with under 300 credits have 30 RA.
We did change the RA requirements for a couple of titles, so this might be the result of that change.  We should definitely keep it updated.

4. is there a feature to delete posts?
Mods can delete posts, but once you click post, I think you can edit your post for a certain amount of time, but then it is there for posterity.

5. a lot of the best polls in the mongering talk and lounge are from 2012, maybe we can have some new ones or annual polls.
Great idea!  I like to see more polls and question/answer sessions in the Mongering Talk and Lounge sections.

6. the mongering talk and lounge areas seem to have the same function... maybe merge them or make their differences more  clear?
I actually think it is OK to keep them separate, although I do see people occasionally post in the wrong forum.  The difference is pretty simple:  If it is related to PUNTING, post in MONGERING SECTION.  If it is non-punting, then post in LOUNGE.  Non-punting topics may include current events, finances, opinions on good books, etc.

7. The acceptance points being 1/20th of a credit actually makes them very pointless... I would get rid of this altogether.  1 karma for a basic rating seems better.  Would encourage participation.
This I agree and have asked for a revision in the past, maybe to make 4 Acceptance = 1 Karma, rather than the 20 Acceptance = 1 Karma.  It would encourage more people to post in the Mongering Talk and Lounge.

I think it is best to first investigate what 'acceptance'
ratings are here for and the purpose it serves …
I know it wasn't meant to be used for members to climb up the K ladder
Right now as it stands, if I remember correctly, the original 20A = 1K was changed to 5A = 1K quite sometime ago

in the past, the Talk and the Lounge (combined in those days) the use of K ratings were allowed, use of Ks were removed because of misuse and took away the importance from posting reports in the reports section,
it was meant to encourage more reporting, but now days activity is so low in all sections maybe its time to change it back to allow use of Ks ... the mods should discuss this

one of the reasons Acceptance ratings was conceived was because people who made posts or replies that one may or may not agree with,
it didn't warrant a +K or -K so A serves the purpose of making a short reply without making a new post
case in point ... Mods makes a lot of replies to questions all the time, and to be fair, rating Ks are not necessary, so As are the next best method
there were a few other reasons that I don't remember now, but they were openly discussed back in those days

Went yesterday. N3 was closed. New Makati had bouncers at street level and were basically telling us not to even bother if looking for girls since there were none. Queen Vic was packed and the crowd was spilling onto the streets - you had to navigate your way around them on the sidewalk. A real cock fest.

Twice: My greatest perk was meeting up with you occasionally.
But, boy oh boy, some of those meetups were an eye-opening.

Another suggestion

I keep seeing newbies get chastised by mods for leaving 1 line replies.  To be fair, this rule about 1 line replies is buried kind of deep in the forum guidelines, don't think newbies who just joined would have read all the rules.

Maybe admins can disable the reply feature for people with 10 RA in the forum sections you don't want it to happen instead of treating every errant reply on an ad hoc basis.

Or maybe you have considered it but it wasn't possible, in which case would be nice to know as well.

Yes I agree with you. They should NOT be chastised.  Newbies should get just a warning at first.  Negative acceptance pt afterwards.

I have seen newbie post in about 15 to 20 1 liners consecutively before.

I think the reasoning behind "one liners" rules have transformed over the years

The biggest problem is what we call it … "one liner"

The original intent was to rid this forum of replies that did not contribute towards that thread and to prevent members from gaining Ks by saying : thanks or I will visit her or anything along those lines
One single word reply was acceptable as long as it contributed towards that thread

It's now ten years down the road, maybe the present  membership should discuss with the mods on what a "one liner" actually means these days so a consistent rule can be agreed to before one negs someone for replying with a "one liner"

I like to add, on the Chinese side of 141,  on one thread, there are sometimes 10 to 15 pages of 1 lines. of "thank you" and

meaningless replies.  Wasting my time going thru each page to find relevant information or me posting at the end of a thread. It was real bad, SLOW,  when I only had a 56K modem years ago.  I don't know how it is now since I have not login in a long time.

From time to time, a newbie would post 15 to 20 one liners in each different thread on the English side. Some would stop after a warning while others would continue.

One liners

Newbies do not get "chastised" for posting one-liners, at least not right away.

My personal tactic is to first rate a one-liner with +1A (if the person is truly new, i.e., has just joined and have not been lurking for years already), and the rating comment politely suggests the newbie to read the forum rules before posting, and points out that thanks, contact requests, and short comments should be done via rating.

People only get neg'ged after a few warnings, or if they have been members for a long time, and yet don't even bother to rate the OP, or read the whole thread, and instead they post a one-line reply asking for the wechat...

It has been pointed out earlier in this thread that the "no one liners" rule is buried deep among the guidelines. I checked and indeed found this to be true. I updated the Forum Welcome, and it now has a short (yet prominently highlighted) paragraph regarding one-liners, or maybe we should call them NCSC (Non-Contributory Short Comments?)
Since the Newbies also tend to be puzzled about how RA works, I also added a table summarizing all the RA-related info (until now, there was a link which was pointing to an out-of-date table).
Feel free to have a look at the updated Forum Welcome, and if you have suggestions for other improvements to the guide, let us know.

Sorry I read it wrong. I missed the mod part. "chastised" meaning by other members. One member first gives negative pts, then it starts a chain reaction.

I guess it's like taking back all the member's one liners pts.  I don't believe I have seen this happening lately.

On the Chinese Side, one liners are tolerated and acceptably.  Newbies see this as a way to move quickly in rank.
