I see numerous review and mongering talk threads viewed about 100 times before anyone gives an "Acceptance" or "Karma" rating.   What can we do to encourage everyone to participate more in the rating system?

Agree with you, I try to give all daily karma available for a day when I log in, that's not the case for  everybody, far from it, maybe laziness or lack of time.

Best would be a voluntary behavior change.

Other than that, one way,  I could see this improving is maybe rewarding members that give karma and acceptance, by giving some karma after a defined amount of karma given.  Eg 1karma for each 50 or 100 karma given.

Do away with the mobile option.  The mobile version doesn't offer Ratings at all - not sure how many are making use of that option, but might be a start.

Can Discuz!5.0 perform that function?  That said, the karma system was adopted to reward contributors AND show your genuine appreciation to those contributing and thus build bonds with other members. If members who rate are given K, then you got to question their real motive for rating. Is it to show real appreciation or to rate for their own benefit?

It is possible the "view count / karma" ratio for the unrestricted sections is so high because
(1)non-members are also reading the forum. Guests often outnumber Members 10 to 1 (at the time of posting it was 28 members and 249 guests).
(2) the mobile forum doesn't allow rating, and I guess some members use that
(3) the older members in particular are not reading every report that they open and quickly leave once they discover that punt is not their cup of tea. I only rate reports that I actually read (forum fatigue).

I am often slow to give As and Ks.  I read the review partially then come back to it later, sometimes I run out of Ks and As.  And sometimes if I don't log on for awhile I will go back through a bunch of old posts to cities I am interested in or those that look interesting and then I will still give Ks and As from even months ago.  It is disappointing that some really quality reports go with only few Ks.  I have noticed that with some of mine also, but such as life.  Just means I need to punt more right?     Then make more reviews!  haha

I had no idea about the mobile not being able to give out Ks and As, I always use the web version.

Also I have noticed how much Karma we can give out is directly related to our level.  So newbies who can read the reviews don't have much Karma to give out.  And at the beginning, and embarrassingly I did not know that the Karma came from the system, I was thinking it came from my personal Karma stash and then I was thinking how could I level up if I am giving away my own Karma, I wonder how many others thought the same thing.

Forum Fatigue - Bros that couldn't be bothered writing reports also couldn't be bothered giving out Karma points.
   - How can we combat that? I don't think there is anything we can do to change that as it's a personal choice.

Non Members - They can read about 90% of the reports on the forum without having to signup.
   - What's the incentive to signup if you are never going to write a report or comment on a report?

My last report which was RA 50 only 22 out of 205 people gave Karma or Acceptance.
Not an issue for me but other bros trying to climb the ranks could possibly get frustrated at those numbers.

Obe, I mentioned in a post in the admin comment section last month that in order for people to be able to read anything they should have to create an account.  It is very simple.  They need to sign up to read and post a hello, intro message and then they can read the forums.  I may cut down on how many people read the posts, but it will encourage people to participate more.

That is how the forum use to be and I believe it was better then. Admin decided to make it viewable to non members (public) as they are displaying adverts on every page now.

Do what I do and just RA all your reports.

I actually think a big part of it is laziness (even though it is not that difficult to do). In my view, having a "like" button similar to facebook which gives karma would result in much more karma giving. All you have to do is press the thumbs up button either on desktop or mobile version of the forum

When I joined the forum many moons ago, the forum was like a shiny new toy and I rated just about anything because I read just about everything. I was doing walkups, saunas, HGs and freelancers. I punted a lot and reported. Now, I rarely punt, so reading the reports feels like a chore. Plus, I like a certain style of punting, which eliminates most reports. I don't read anything that doesn't appeal to me. I read anything by petay as he is a buddy and I like to see what naughty shit he gets up to. I read yours and JtB's because I like looking at the travel pics included with the reports. If bros like ramont and mister post, I look at their stuff too. When I have my trips to HK, I tend to look at newbie reports to get info, but most of the time I stay away.

Laziness is probably part of it too, a like button would help, but that only gives 1 karma.. it will take forever to level up.   

I agree with Thai-delight.  I try my best recently to read stuff that doesn't appeal to me to learn more or get other information but it is time consuming.  The forums are not that busy, but still.  I like to read all sorts of different stuff.

I am wondering how many other people like to see travel photos on top of the reports?

I add travel photos to try capture my day or days leading up to the punt. If the punt is overseas it would be good if bros gave their views on the food and culture they are experiencing. Possibly a quick run down on the area they are staying in.

Often reading the blow by blow happenings in the bedroom can be repetitive and boring.

Just my thoughts.

For me it''s a combination of time and laziness I think though may be approaching the forum fatigue by trying to read all the reports

I rate all the Newbie reports for encouragement and keep up to date reading in full the reports in the sections I am the sole Mod on to check for 1 liners, moves and edits etc so normally rate most of these.

The other I try always to rate in any section I spot are Bros sharing bad punts with sympathy Ks as I think these are very important contributions.

Then I try to keep up with the Mongering Talk and Lounge sections to give contributions and input from my experiences

On reports, I only ever have done ones for really good or really bad punts though with trying to do the other things above simply don't have the time as I have the complete inability to write short reports as some of you know............

That said I probably only owe about 4 really good ones and one really bad one so will try to catch up.

The Mods are trying to come up with a competition or two to get more input so any suggestions are welcome.

I think some people are just looking for free rides to some intel and not bother to give k/a to the OP.  when ever I logged in and read the posts, I give out k/a to the posters.

another thing I like to point out is that the rest of the world and north america sections are receiving too less k/a compared to the asian sections.  sometimes I see a post with no pictures and couple paragraphs in the asian sections and the post received over 100 of k/a.
  
1 more thing I noticed is a high ranking senior with millions reading access that don't gives out k/a but that person receives tons and tons of k/a when posted his hunting details.  what's going there?  I looked at my history and not 1 k/a for that person.

I can't name the brother out, but i do admit brother has excellent hunting skills and pictures.  
I try to post some reviews over the summer but I'm just frustrated that my efforts of writing a review bears little rewards.
i'm not the only one who feels the same.  some brothers from the rest of world and north amercia feel the same, so i'm not the only one.  they have pm me about it.

Been frustrated regarding the whole K/A system.
Some other members build their RA from A-points. And climbed up the ladder pretty quick. By just posting lame ass stuff in talks and lounge.
Meanwhile I’m posting real punts and great info from alleys massage joints ktv and other ways to get laid and stuff like that.
And I’m only at a RA 60.
Lol.
That’s why now I RA my pictures with contact Info or directions. So if any bros wants to know.  They have to put out K points first.

But I also got people pm me and say I’m just here trying to cheat the system to force people to give me K points in exchange of punt info.

I think posts like this help. We all know most people reading aren’t polite enough to be involved, share reports or give karma. So those of us who are participating need to step up. Unfortunate, but I think true.
