NOTE - this covers the city of Kuala Lumpur. I understand there is some action in Johor Bahru, down near the border of Singapore but I have no experience there. Also, not sure about some of the outlying areas…. so, this is Punting in KL…. NOT punting in Malaysia.

First, visiting KL is pretty inexpensive coming from the US. The overall cost of the trip is pretty low. You can get a really nice hotel for less than $60 USD a night!  

Second, the thing I like is that it is really multi-cultural - in my three punts there I had 1 girl from Indonesia, 1 from Vietnam, and 1 from Thailand. There is a lot of variety.

Flights:
A quick check on Google Flights shows you can get an AirAsia flight, HKG-KUL for about $110 round trip, it’s about a 4 hour flight from HKG. I flew in from Singapore once, which was an hour long flight. It’s about 7 hours from Tokyo (NRT) and which is good connection point form the states. I flew from KUL to NRT on ANA and the service and food were great!

When you arrive at the airport, take the KLIA Ekspress train to Sentral and grab an Uber or Cab to your hotel. One option is the VIP Service where they will greet you at customs, accompany you on the train and then have a car waiting for you at the Sentral Station to take you to your hotel- and you’ve got your own porter the entire way to handle your bags. Pretty awesome!

Hotels:
There are plenty of nice hotels and they are a bargain! I stayed at the Hilton in Sentral last time and it was great. I thought the executive lounge was really good until my friend who was staying that the Le’ Meridian, which is connected to the Hilton, invited me to eat with her in that lounge - holy shit, it was great! Best lounge I’ve been in!

If you’re a Marriott guy (I assume we’re all guys here….. hmmm…. ) - there are two good choices: The JW Marriott & Renaissance.

JW - $700 MYR / $160 USD / $1229 HKD
Renaissance $251 MYR / $57 USD / $440 HKD

There is only thing going on in Sentral: Zeta bar - the Hotel bar in the Hilton, where you’ll find WGs. I went twice for a couple of hours total and there wasn’t much to my liking… YMMV, worth checking out if you are staying in Sentral for sure! Note, Zeta Bar is closed on Sunday nights.

The cool thing about staying in Sentral is that it is right by the Sentral station and you can get a train / uber / cab to anywhere pretty quickly. I bought a pass and took the monorail & train around the city. I’ll stop here, there are plenty of sites you can use to learn more about the transportation options. Oh, and there is huge mall on the other side of the Sentral Station, great prices! Lots of shops!

Also, if you’re staying in Sentral you can also easily expand your search area to Seputeh Mid Valley, a short 5/10 minute Uber or over to Petaling Jaya, 10/15 minute Uber. Not saying the agents with girls in those places won’t send their girls around KL, you might just pay more. I’m talking about Sentral a bit because I stayed there and liked it.


Meals:
my first visit was mostly eating at the hotel e.g. breakfast in the executive lounge, dinner at the hotel…. But, you didn’t come to read about food… did you? I’ll update this part after my next trip, when I’m staying closer to Bukit Bintang, where there are way more options.

Apparently there are a lot of great nightclubs in KL, and it can be a fun city to party in.

Hotel Walk Ups
The way it seems to work in KL is that the agency rents out an entire floor of a hotel. They are all over the city, and I’ll highlight a few that I found, starting with the two that I tried.

The one thing to note is that the agents can share a stable of girls, so often times you’ll see multiple ways to contact the agency, and that is because you have multiple people arranging things for the girls. I had to go through this interesting thing with the one agency when I got there where I had to tell the girl which agent I used… I was like, huh? You need me to tell you? LOL!

I was still horny after his, and it was early, so I went to check out Thai club pretty late. It was winding down and there were a couple of cute girls, but wasn't sure I had it in me to punt so I was very quick to tell the girls I was waiting for someone but I appreciated their coming over to me. As for hotels, I stayed at the Renaissance - which is about as nice as a location as one could ask for in terms of proximity to both Beach Club & Thai club! I walked there - with a stop off in the Havana Club one night for a cocktail. Renaissance was not the nicest hotel, but I got upgraded after the first night so had a pretty good room for most of my stay. The pool at this hotel is simply AMAZING. I heard it's the biggest pool in KL, which I believe. The executive lounge was nice as well.


From the Renaissance, you also pass a Hard Rock Cafe when walking to Beach & Thai, which I stopped in a couple of times, but it was pretty lame (could have been when I was there). Both the Havana Club and Hard Rock are connected to the Concorde Hotel which looked like a nice place. If I weren't a Marriott guy, that seemed like a nice place to stay (and even closer to Beach & Thai Clubs). I did see some WGs coming and going there as I was passing by on two of the nights.

My sense is that prices are in the $400 - $500MYR for both Beach & Thai, all depending on your negotiating skills (YMMV). They were loaded up with Vietnamese chicks, but there were a few other nationalities as well.

One of the great parts of where I stayed is that it was only a few monorail stops from Bukit Bintang, where Sky River is located, along with a ton of Shopping & Restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised to find a Din Tai Fung in the Pavilion Mall, I went twice for dumplings! I posted a map below that shows where the monorail station is, Sky River, etc.

All in all, I like KL... it is so darn far to get to from the US that I don't know that I'd go back again unless I had to. There are places that are easier to get to (like Hong Kong).

To me, Beach & Thai were both similar to Ipanema in Singapore (and Brix to some extent). I wonder if anyone who has experience in those could offer some comparisons between Ipanema, Beach, Brix, etc. to the bars in Wan Chai? Pretty similar? It's been years since I've been and can't really recall.

I have a growing affinity for bars like Beach, Brix, etc. I like the little dance of meeting the girl, seeing if there is a connection, etc. So, if it were my first time I'd start there (or Thai Club, but there were more girls it seems at Beach). I would check both.

If that bar scene isn't your thing, I'd suggest Sky River. You get a lineup, the girls look good (the one I had wasn't photoshopped at all, other than to blur out a bit of her tattoo).

I would probably stay at the same place (Renaissance), some hotel near that -- given then proximity to Beach & Thai Clubs. OR, I'd stay in Bukit Bintang, given how close it is to SkyRiver. Uber / Grab are both cheap there, so either of those areas - or Sental, would be fine. There is also the Monorail
Which gets you between Sentral and the main parts of the city you'll care about quickly & easily. Given that you don't drink, you could easily stay in Sentral, take the monorail to where you want to go.

2) Day Time punting vs Night Time punting? - I am not a drinker / partier but I still like to flirt with girls.
I did a day time punt at Sky River on my first trip, but everything else was night time. If you like to flirt, I suggest Beach Club and Thai Club (or Zeta Bar at Hilton in Sentral).

3) ST, LT or Overnight?

4) Any money mistakes you made? Overpaid or underpaid? Special passes or cards to get access to certain areas
Nope, just regret that first night on my second trip - where I picked something that was not my first choice at the end of the night.

6) Uncharted areas that you would like to explore on your next trip? (For example - my first HK trip was all TST, from there I ventured to Wanchai etc)
The only place I didn't get to was Petaling Jaya, there is supposed to be a good agent there.

I always do it at my bank at home (in the US) before I go - no fees. That having been said, most American hotel chains (Marriott, Hilton, etc.) will exchange cash for you at the front desk - and have done it at the Renaissance Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, as well as Hong Kong!

There are few exchange office or money changer(they named it in malaysia). They can be found in bukit bintang area such as Pavillion(inside the mall),around Sungai wang area,inside times square and also at the klcc. The exchange rate might be different from the exchange outlet means some  higher/lower. Well exchange rate at the hotel and in the bank are much lower compare to those exchange office.

I exchange a lot of USD to MYR in KL. I've found consistently one of the best places is Spectrum Forex. There's a shop on LG floor of NU Sentral, the mall next to the KL Espres - Sentral stop (This is the city stop of the Airport Express equivalent in KL).

You can see from the website that the buy/sell spread is pretty tight. At the very least, you can use it as a benchmark against the other money changers you encounter.

Also note that money changers have only allowed me to exchange 600USD at a time without asking me to "Register". In most cases, they just let me go to the back of the line and keep exchanging 600 at a time.

Went to Alpha Genesis Hotel last night, but at the reception desk they said to me no more sauna in this hotel, they close the license.
