I had never heard the word used in that way before i arrived in HK, Is it a local phrase, or an American one that I have not heard in Europe? Could it be because of Mong Kok? Thanks Tarte

But it seems to apply to the clinets in the context we use it here.  I can't think of a better word.  I think it is used as both a noun and a verb.

So taking the British context mongering is trading a commodity (sex for money)

But, seeing the posts above, there are different versions of the term - so I guess you take your pick.
