Newbie - where to go? HK, Macao, Shenzen?

Hey people,

Just found this forum and thanks everybody for all the info.
I have been to thailand many times, also visited phils 2 times and cambodia once. So I´m not a total asia noob.

Now I will be in HK / Macao Region for 5 Days. My flight leaves very early on the 5th day, so the last day I must spend in HK.

I planned to stay in shenzen for 1-2 days, expecting to get more for my money there. But info is hard to find and I speak no chinese at all.
Also prices mentioned here for HK seem not to be much higher than shenzen? Is it really worth going there?

I also wanted to stay one or two nights in macao, maybe stay overnight in one of the famous saunas for one night and go to a really good hotel for the second.
I guess macao is much more expensive than HK but I have been told the most beautiful ladys thend to be there. You agree?

Or should I book 5 nights in a medium priced hotel in HK, make a daytrip to shenzen and one to macao (maybe with sauna overnight stay, leave HK Hotel empty that night)
That would save me travel around with luggage, and waste time for hotel check ins and outs.
What would you recommend to a HK first timer?

When staying in HK, which hotel would you recommend? What part of the city should I stay? Close to the action but not to noisy would be nice.
How much money do I need to spend on a hotel for a decent experience (Its my first holiday for 2 years, and I don´t need to turn the penny. Don´t want to waste my money though)

Thanks for any help.
Greets, Andrew

It's a risk/reward calculation.  Macau is most expensive, but also easiest and safest.  HK a close second.

SZ is tough as a newbie.  I had luck, but it was before the crackdowns

1st You might need to get a visa for China depending on what country you are from ?

2nd Since you can't speak Chinese, it willl be very very hard to get around.  In Thailand,

a lot more people speak English. Don't expect that in China. HK should not be an issue with communications.

3rd It will take about 3 to 4 hours to get from HK to SZ.  This is considering transportation and crossing the borders.

4 th stay at any 3 star hotels is fine.  Warning, hotels in HK in my opinion are very expensive. 3 stars are from 100 USD to 200 USD a night.
