Hi Senior members,

As you all know, there is an on-going crackdown in China now, primarily in the Southeast area.

Does anybody know what happens if you get "caught"?

Some people say you are jailed for 15 days, but I heard from other sites that if you pay 5000RMB fine, you get to walk.

Anybody have any ideas?

there has been other discussion on this topic, in summary

you could just walk or,

you could get administrative detention (initially usually 15 days but could be extended) or,

you could be charged and get a holiday with prison rations

and / or any of the above - deported with stamp in passport

depends on - who knows how it works

there have been reports of each of the above either from those it happened to or acquaintances of the reporter

if you are detained you will be given the opportunity to contact your embassy (within the agreed time frame I understand to be 4 days)

if detained the worst thing you could do is threaten the police with international or diplomatic trouble, remember you are just another punter who got caught not some international bigwig

As for offering inducements for freedom this may well lead to additional charges or a lightening of the wallet, police "fines", in cash of course, are not unknown

there are also laws concerning sleeping with someone you are not married to (but I have never heard of it being enforced) with double penalty if the woman is married to a PLA member
