"SHENZHEN police have detained nearly 100 people suspected of involvement in prostitution, gambling or drugs following a Monday teleconference led by the Guangdong public security department.

Three entertainment venues and 39 sauna clubs have been closed during the campaign, according to the Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau.

Shenzhen police have set up a special team led by new police chief Liu Qingsheng and have established six task forces to combat prostitution, gambling and drugs in the coming three months.

Residents are encouraged to report such crimes by calling 2222-2110, faxing 8446-5145 or visiting www.szga.gov.cn. People also can visit the public security bureau’s Crimes and Violations Reporting Center at 4018 Jiefang Road in Luohu District. Police are offering rewards for tips that lead to arrests.

Luohu District, which is home to many entertainment venues and has a large transient population, began a cleanup campaign Monday at nightclubs, gaming halls, urban villages and even rented apartments suspected of hosting prostitution.

“We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy and a tough attitude toward gambling, prostitution and drugs, and will punish people behind them,” said Lin Changping, executive deputy chief of the Luohu District Public Security Bureau."

I am actually in Luohu and it is the 1st time since 5 years that I walked across luohu , no mamasan or papasan near Shangri-la

This is scary.  If they are offering meaningful rewards to turn punters and hookers in, it will be dangerous out there for some time.   I suppose this could mean that hotels and other establishments will be raising their guards and looking more closely at who comes and goes. Any one have an idea how effective these rewards might be in getting common people to start spying? This is not good.

I don't think there will be a reward for reporting.
