I realise that this is a mongering site, but I also realise that we cant just be humping all day and night long - even though some of us would like to
Coming to china quite a lot, and having a bunch of veggie friends, I usually end up showing them the markets as this seems to be of prime interest to them. Over the past 7 years I have seen a lot of them and thought I would share some insights.
Shanghai - still the best one IMO, the quality of the fakes is much higher than in Beijing, and of course there is the FS MS on the 6th Floor. see report for that here

In Beijing there are 2 markets that I have frequented over the years, Yashow Clothing Market and Silk Street.
YaShow has the better quality, and the cheaper prices. While frequented by tourists there are only 1 or 2 busses offloading passangers. half hour Massage costs 40 RMB there, as opposed to the 98 rmb at Slik Street. Silk is a tourist trap the likes I have not seen before - there were at least 20 busses offloading passangers, and even had Tourguides with the mandatory flag taking the groups through the 5 floors
I checked the watches, shoes, clothing and wallets/bags and the prices being bandied about are double of Yashow. was looking at some fake VANS sneakers and the work was appalling. listening to the tourists getting royally done over by the well trained sales people made me cringe.
So if you have a bit of time on your hands and have not been there before - take a look, but be vary careful of what you buy there - the days of A grade watches with sapphire glass are mostly gone unless you are in Shanghai.
