This is their stance:
"To be on the Olympic program is an issue where you need universality as much as possible. You need to have a sport with a following, you need to have the best players and you need to be in strict compliance with WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency). And these are the qualifications that have to be met. When you have all that, you have to win hearts. You can win the mind, but you still must win hearts."
Do the best players compete? I don't know.

the best players don't compete although it has been "promised" that the professional leagues would find a way to make it possible for them to participate if baseball was re admitted.

Do the best players compete in soccer?

Universal:- professional or semi pro leagues in 100+ countries.
WADA compliant:- they are now.
Following:- a bigger World Wide following than at least 22 of the 26 other sports. Most popular summer sport in North America, Number 1 or 2 most popular sport in half the countries in South America. Most popular sport in Japan, Korea, Taiwan. Moderate popularity but good participation in Australia, NZ, South Africa, and throughout Europe. Number 2 or 3 sport for example in Holland and Czech Republic and several others. Certainly enough of a following to be in the Olympics.
Hearts: I think they mean wallets.

Well if it is based on numbers of participants wanking would win hands down, that sport would have 100% participation world wide

Do 2 or 3 teams tend to dominate, making the results less predictable? America's domination (22 wins in a row) was a reason for dropping softball.

Japan, Cuba, Korea, USA, Dominican Republic are strongest teams. Taiwan is very good. Venezuela, Columbia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Holland, Panama, Nicaragua are quite good.

The consensus was the IOC galvanised support to dump these 2 "American" sports (Baseball/Softball) in part to protest about the US occupation of Iraq. The 2 issues should never have been related but that was the under current. The "official excuses" the IOC put up have all been addressed and numerous sports with far less following or interest levels remain while Baseball stays out.

It annoys me because Govt funding for Olympic sports vs non Olympic sports is dramatically different in "out neck of the woods" TD...
