I found this interesting report from a sociology department in a Hong Kong university discussing the work habits and emotional management of 141s.  It is very interesting.  Not everything is true, but a lot of it rings true.

I have rarely read a worse article on the topic.

Clearly this is as Pre-Doc student trying to get her Phd.  Unreadable.

Read it (well as focused as one can when watching paint dry) and it's a bunch of fluff.

Basically it argues (it doesn't really) that WG's are too scared to reveal their identity because society doesn't accept them. And due to that, these WG's live in their own world which ordinary people would not understand.

I wonder if the author, Dr. Travis S.K. Kong, Associate Professor at HKU, has ever been a member on here (or the Chinese forum) as part of his research into sexuality and prostitution?

You'd be surprised.
I ran into a few local HK girls who were working at the walk-ups; they were either in college,
or on summer vaction break from university trying to earn some extra cash to pay for tution.
One of the local WG's that I tried at Champagne Court was working there
for about 2 months before returning to university for her last year at Poly U (if I remembered correctly).

Funny about the paint drying. I also found parts very booring. The 13 he interviewed is a narrow and biased sample, even from the fact that they were willing to talk to him. Also that they do not have sex with gwailos is so obviously untrue, and that none of the thirteen spke about being very aroused by some of their clients, which does actually happen.

Yet this nonsense aside it was still interesting to me as sometimes i encounte a girl who is not really turned on by my type and the article explains how the 141 is professional and even makes me feel good in that situation.  I admire the Hong Kong girl for being so kind even when they do not like you.  

Anyway any interviews of hk 141s are interesting to me and if anybody onows of more like this available please post.  i do not think this guy used this forum or his thesis would have become a bit better and less easy to find errors in it. Must have been a little lazy.

WGs actually do make a lot of money.. Especially the favourites..

The massage girl I use to visit weekly at Halong Bay was saving up for law school. Kind of reminds of that girl from season 1 of West Wing that slept with Sam.

Anyways my point is... The job pays well and it's technically legal. Why not if your will to reach your end goal gets you through the hardship from lost of pride and dignity?

Right maybe after they saved enough for the university fee then graudate, and then get a normal job?

Maybe she will get married and she will not disclose her past as a WG to her lover

Some I heard after working in Hong Kong the mainland WG will build a house or buy a apartment after saving enough money from their home village

Does hong kong offer any kind of student loan programs? Kinda sucks to have someone fully capable with the smarts and determination to be held back from simply money (well at least in my opinion).

Here in canada. I can borrow as much as I like interest free till I graduate. Shit, if my tab is large enough, they'll even knock off a certain % (25% in my case) off the total.

Yes Hong Kong have student grant loans, but maybe you need to be really Smart Outstanding Grades or have some kind of disability or need to declare all your assets.

Maybe thoese Girls think they'll have to pay back anyway, and these WGs acturally make quite alot anyway. They just save enough and pay off the 3 year degree

They dont need to have the burdan to repay the government although its very low interest rate ...

almost in any job, you would make a lot of money if you were a top in the field.
