Haircut

OK, this is nothing related to sex, but I figure this is a good place to ask the question: where can a guy get a decent haircut from a barber that speaks decent English without paying an arm-and-a-leg?  So far my nervousness over unintended consequences from poor communications have had me paying HK$450+ a pop at some frou-frou salon in Central, which, while it has the benefit of being close to my office, costs HK$450+ and takes an hour or more just to get a damn trim (by the time they get done shampooing and styling and blow-drying and all the rest).

When I lived in Brooklyn, I used to go to this great old Italian guy who gave a killer 20-minute haircut and charged me only US$25--would love to find the same thing here!  Or are my expectations just completely out of line?

Am happy to take recommendations wherever they are, but my strong preference would be for the North side of the island, somewhere between Central and North Point...

Thanks in advance for any advice!!!!

I've gone the salon route with mixed results, and then when I've finally found someone who can cut western hair, he/she is always gone when I return.

For the last 6 mths, I've had my hair cut on the 2nd floor of the Mandarin Hotel in Central; costs HK$ 300 and takes 20-30 mins - no shampoo, no blow dry, the place is a high-class barber shop for men with nary a frou in sight. Guy called Steven, who's been cutting hair there for 30 yrs, does a great job and speaks excellent English.

Thanks for the tip Marsupial, will definitely give this place a try!  Still more than I'd like to pay, but at least it doesn't sound like I need to check my balls at the door!

Good god you guys are cheap! The Snake is proud of his long, flowing, wavy locks and he's not
gonna entrust them to a guy who gives crewcuts to sailors. I've had the same barber in Jordan
for 14 years. $200 includes shampoo. Hair needs to be wet to get a decent cut.

Thanks again for the advice!  Am not into looking like a sailor, but if I ever change my mind...

$200-300 sounds about right--but unfortunately, Jake, if I have to go all the way to Jordan every time I need one, will wind up looking like Moses.  Will definitely give Marsupial's guy Steven a try...

My barber is within walking distance of 2 or 3 hotels where a lot of the TST gals are based.
So I always combine a haircut with a visit to a WG.

Damn... you guys pay a lot for a haircut

My wife probably pays about the same as some of you guys.  Geez...  I think she pays $38 USD = under $300 HKD for a wash, cut and style.  Lots of places are less, but salons are super plentiful in NYC.  I have been going to the same guy who has cut my hair for about 15 years now, the place charges $14 for a wash, cut and style.  My boys and I go together, for the same guy and they do not wash their hair when they get a haircut.  $14 for me, $18 for all three boys plus $13 tips ($3 for my washer and $10 to my cutter.)  $45 bucks total for all.  Perhaps it is the long hair or whatnot but my boys and I all get the same ABC style haircut, shaved sides, medium long top to style to one side.

AGAIN!  GOD DAMN! you guys pay a lot for a damn haircut!

Barber shop in NYC with extras

Makes me think of a barber shop that gives extras here.  All manned by women.  $7 dollar haircut, $40 massage room in the back $20 for a RT although I have had friends who has received more for less.  All ladies in their 30-40s, not my cup of tea but talk about convenient, actually there are 2 places like this in NYC.
