Apartment/room for rent

Hi,
I'll be relocating to HK mid sept and am currently looking for a small apt or room (with attached toilet) enough for 1 person. I'd like it to be on HK island, preferably in Causeway bay or Wanchai. I'd truely appreciate if you could recommend any owners (by pass the agents) or decent agents. My budget is around hKD6500-7000 per month. I'd like a 6 mth initial lease. Much appreciated, thanks.

Causeway Bay and Wanchai went up in price a lot in the last 10 years. To give you an idea of how expensive it is in these areas. A 120 sq ft (gross) room that is part of a sub-divided flat is going for $4000-5000 a month. Net sq ft is lot less making for a very tiny room. Attached bathroom is not guaranteed.

To get anything decent in your budget, you should go far out to the New Territories like Tuen Mun. Transportation in HK is excellent and there are affordable late night buses to provide you with service 24 hours.

Yes I agree with the above. Friends of mine came here for work and they all looked around CWB and Wan Chai, however most places are 9000+ for studio type rooms less than 300sqft. SOme have also ventured into Sheung Wan and the Western Disctrict and had more success - 11000 for 2 bedroom. However Kowloon will be a better place to look, and also out in the New Territories. T
If you dont mind you can also opt for sharing an apartment as there are many other people that have similar budgets yet cannot find anything. Or even Lamma or Discovery Bay.

Happy Flat hunting

Yeah, I know that it's expensive over there. I'm weighing transportation over convenience. I'll be alone so it's more controllable. Thanks, looking forward to the punting scene and contributing to this forum.

why dont you try in Tsim Sha Tsui. There are a few rooms available at the budget  that you are looking for.

to be more specific, on 12th floor A and B, they have 6 rooms that are given on rent at around HK$5,600-HK$6,000 per month.  The rooms are quiet well maintained.

accommodation in HK

rents in HK have always been high. but in the last five years or so they've become ridiculous.

IMO living out in the New Territories means commutes that aren't worth it. CWB/WC are good areas for the hobby but you may find better deals and fewer crowds in areas east of Victoria Park, like Tin Hau & North Point.

i assume you're used to the tiny flats HK offers in this price range, but here are a couple of URLs with lists of private agents. needless to say, you will need to call and check out the flat personally. many agents have several flats, so there's no harm in looking glum in a flat you like and saying "well, it's a bit small/expensive/whatever," the agent will say "oh i have another flat in TST, it's cheaper" and you say, "if i take a six-month lease, can you make it a little bit cheaper?" you won't get a massive discount but it's worth a try...
