The 10X factor sounds kinda right to me too. To make the math work you have to consider the very wide range of prices/services. Haircuts can be $2 (Vietnam sidewalk) to $50 (expat salon in HCMC), versus services: $15 BBBJ (Hot Toc, expat price) to $100 (LT overnight).
So the gentleman's comment is actually quite tough to nail down, given it's generality of context. However, have any of you notice that the 10X factor is spot on accurate (+/- 1 SD) if comparing the cost of a shoe shine to the cost of a SW BBBJ in a back alley?? Hmmm?
