No they aren't the same. These bars are just girls in bikini that serve you drinks(non alcoholic of course) and refill your water. It is strictly eye candy kind of like a toned down strip club. The Japanese hostess bars I've gone to is totally different. Usually in the Japanese hostess bars, you will get a girl to sit and chat with you and pour you drinks and are more expensive. You will get more attention from the Japanese hostess bar but probably won't get much action from them either.
