Thinking about making a trip down to the fabled land for a few days after christmas. Have heard conflicting reports about this time of year, and looking for a few more opinions before I get my flights.

Hotels: I don't have a credit card and stay in budget accommodation. Will I be able to rock up and find something decent without booking?

Pussy: Seems to be high season, so lots of mongers, but I've heard that it means more girls as well? I plan on doing mostly freelancers. Do the girls ask for higher prices at this time of year?

During the holidays there are lots of people traveling so prices go up for everything including a big jump in airfares. Peak travel season around christmas

Hotel: There's always something available (especially in budget level), just go to any travel agency in Central Pattaya after arrival (plenty between Beach Rd. and 2nd Rd.) and they'll find something for you. During Christmas/ New Year expect to pay around THB 1000-1500 for decent budget hotel, a little less for not so nice place...

Transport: From Suvarnabhumi airport you can take a bus (around THB 130), shared van (THB 200-300) or taxi (around THB 1500...you have to negotiate)...

Girls: Freelancers around Beach Rd. are the cheapest (and definitely not a top models...also make sure she's a real girl as there's lots of ladyboys in that area too) but watch your belongings! Around THB 500/1000 short/long time. Girls from beer bars are a little more expensive but better looking and MUCH safer. Bar fine is usually THB 400 and short/ long time around THB 1000/2000. The most expensive are go-go girls (and usually best looking), bar fine is usually THB 600 (some bars charge more if you take a girl early in the evening and there may be some surcharge on certain days like christmas day or new years eve). Short/ long time around THB 1500/3000...

I've never noticed any big difference in prices. It might be sometimes a few hundred THB more but it really depends on where you are staying and how busy it is...

I'm very often in Bangkok and often end up paying less for hotel room and air ticket in so-called high season then in a low season...

have spent a few holiday seasons in PTY & BKK, there are usually more mongers in town than low season but it makes little difference. the town is more cosmopolitan now, and Walking Street is a tourist spot, but there's plenty of ladies and accommodation. i like asiatravel.com, the Sawasdee group has a few central/cheap/cheerful places, u can also book directly. in PTY i prefer to book one level above the cheapest room, the price differential isn't much but yr neighbors may be more tolerable. also, there are lots of places in South Pattaya that don't have websites but u will likely find a room if u just show up.

there is one thing to watch out for: go-go bars will overcharge absurdly for barfines on Xmas Eve/Xmas, don't pay 2000 baht for a frickin' barfine! there are PLENTY of alternatives. there's also stuff to do during the day in PTY, as u've been there before, u know there are some denizens best avoided in the early morning hours (and not just the trannies on Beach Road). head there, have fun, keep yr eyes open...it's a lotta fun.

Just a thought for someone based in HK.

During the major holidays, so many ppl from HK go away on trips that there is a very high chance you may see someone you know from HK. You better hope that person is not a female or overly-moral male.

Bro, my advice is that if you are going solely for punting purposes then you should go now. If you want to experience new years there then go for it. But such a time of the year usually means sky rocketing prices. Not only with girls, drinks but also hotel accomadation etc. You can probably have as much fun for even half the price if you go on a non-busy time.

Bro, it should be fin to go during christmas time. of course it will be peak season and quite full. but most of the tourists that time are families because it is a busy family holiday time and you find a lot of thai girls to choose from. enjoy!
