Interesting thread. Walking into mongers whilst visiting a WG is bad enough let alone a mongerer that you know. I have not been so unlucky. However, I did see a WG at a bus stop once. I recognized her, not sure if she recognized me though even after eye contact. It was carry on as usual.

I was punting in Tsuen Wan once when I was dating a local girl. Just as I was about to walk up the stairs I heard a shout. It was my SO's best friend...

Awkward!

I managed to blag my way through and bought her lunch!

I have thought of this question many times...  but in the end, then I guess you might have a new mongering buddy then..

I'm more curious if any WG have ever had someone they know from before as a client.. that might be a much more scary thought...

how you even get your way out of that? i would have probably had a like "oh fuck" face and just be sweating like crazy thinking what to say. it would be uncomfortable to even have her ask what i am doing in this area if there was nothing but walkups...

but thats why i stay out of areas i know my friends go to.. so no bumping into people or go strange hours

I think it would be a big laugh for me.
Mainly because I'm not staying here eternaly and so I don't care that much.

I would be much more inconfortable if bumping into someone I know and if he was not mongering but living into the building though

i believe everyone abides by the unwritten code of silence
they'll be awkward moments the next time you meet again,
but certainly don't they the subject would be brought up in public
one of the bro codes i suppose?

Chances of bumping into someone is very likely.  I am from the States and a few years I happened to bump into some relatives in the MTR station.  This was before I learned about this website.
Standard response said in a normal tone and straight face is to tell that person you were pulling into the doorway to use your cell phone as it is too noisy walking in the streets, about to tie your shoe laces as it felt loose or that you were lighting up a cigarette...

wait... you bump int relatives in the MTR station, how does that implicate you from actually being involved in mongering? Forgive me I'm not from HK, but I would generally assume that no MTR station double-ups as a walk-up/... :p

My first time in Tin Hau, I saw someone from work when I was working in North Point... They're close, but still... Anyway, I just waited till she had walked far down the street and then went up.

I thought a friend of mine was staying here, but wait! this is the wrong building! what was i thinking?

As a frequent visitor and non local,  I think its easier to get away with it. If I was a local or resident with a larger network of friends, it may not be so easy, but I'd still use that or the "need to use my phone in a quiet place" excuse referenced by bohica.

Keep the faith, keep it hard, and keep it real!

That is EXACTLY what I said lol I said my phone was ringing and I jumped into this 'random doorway' to answer it. She bought it, we talked and I took her for lunch.

My office is quite close to Tsuen Wan so I always tell my SO I have lunch their once or twice a week!

happens too often

But --- the last time it happened to me was in Escape!  Haha - he was as guilty as I.  We shook hands, pretended for 30 seconds that we were "innocent" and "first time here!"....., and then let the charade fall - it was obvious he was punting, and the young Thai gal on my arm made my charade absolutely ridiculous.   We bought some beers and partied together.  We see each other back in our "real life" with our SOs and smirk.

Just goes to show - his wife is a smoking hot, young, nice, thai-babe -- yet the need for variety still gets him out. Funny -  we all went out together with his wife after that nite and as he knows my penchant for hot, young, drunk, Thai gals he says "I aint taking my eyes off you, Wander!!". Haha.  I told him he was welcome to watch if that's his thing!  Hehe.  Hmmmm, he never did leave me alone with his wife!

Absolutely has happened to me. Not just once, twice, but 3 freaking times!
The first was at East Spa in macau, to see my boss coming out of the shower with a smile on his face then he seeing me
The next was in TST going to a walk up and I meet my high school buddy coming out, while tucking in his shirt, slightly flushed
Last was in Bkk when I inadvertently bumped into my brother in law while out clubbing with a lovely lady (he had one too though!)

So yes it is possible to bumb into people you know....no matter how devious you are
