OH CANADA !!! The Winnipeg Jets are coming back

i think it is interesting that an american city lost its sports team to a canadian city. i can't recall an american team relocating to a canadian city. let me see in the nba the raptors and grizzlies were both canadian born teams. interesting vancouver wants an nba team as well even though they did have a team. in mlb toronto is an original team and even won the world series. i remember some dumb ass americans bitched about it and then i said why the hell did mlb let them in the league then. montreal lost their team to washington dc. in the nfl toronto wants a team and are checking out the buffalo bills. could canada get involved in the nfl then?

i never had thought the canadian dollar would over take the us dollar but it has. i remember at one point when ppl said canada will lose its team to the us when quebec and winnipeg folded. now all that has changed. nhl players get the same pay. the us dollar is oh so weak and the normal exchange rate use to be 1 us dollar equaled about 1.20 cnd dollars. so now canadian teams don't have to worry about exchange rates. interesting how the world of sports is changing in the us. Canadian sports strength is on the rise.

Atlanta and Hockey - that marriage was made because of $$$ - not love.
Canada and Hockey =

I personally don't think that Winnipeg can support a hockey team for the long run -- unless the Canadian economy favours the country.  Canada is doing a little better than America at present, but Winnipeg is still the smallest city and has the smallest economy compared to the other Canadian hockey cities.  I'm just really cautious about this.  Also, as an Ontarian I wished that Jim Basille had been able to get the Phoenix Coyotes into Southern Ontario.  He was a jerk about how he tried to do it, but he was a guy who would have supported the team and whatever city they would have ended up in financially through any downturn.

The NFL in Toronto is actually a bad a idea.  Contrary to what Rogers' PR says, they can't sell out tickets to Buffalo Bills games at the Rogers Centre at all.  They were pricing tickets at $5 and then even giving them away free after they saw that games were only half sold.  My workplace received dozens of free tickets the same day as the summer 2010 games.

home you are right it is all about money. when the atlanta trashers were given a team i was surprised. i don't remember ppl in the south saying hey i love hockey. in the south american football is by far the big sport. even some have argued it is a religion.

pal i'm a wing fan. yes i am sad they got knocked out by the sharks. i am just shocked that an american city lost its sports team to a canadian city.

free we will see if winnipeg can sustain the team. it is all about money. i dont know much about winnipeg. can small market teams be profitable and stay around for a long time. i guess we will see. i awarded you five k's and a's for your reports in thailand and for the great pics. i hope you keep up the good work and you deserve to be a cc.

Besides the exchanges rate reasons, that's true that Canadian loves Hockey more than any other sports. So even the popular of Canada is much less than the States. The audience of Hockey may not less than the US, at some cities.

winnipeg cam support a team

After hearing the season tickets were grabbed up in pretty much a day, i think if the team can draft well and perform well first season and have some great players who work with the community, i'm sure they can last a long time.

Atlanta did well last season but missed the playoffs which sucks.  Lets hope they do better next year as a canadian team.

hey, captaincaveman... thank you for the post...  so, do you think Colorado Avalanche should go back to become the Quebec

Nordiques...???  i personally am i DIE HARD FAN of the MONTREAL CANADIENS but the Nordiques were a great rivalry team back in

the 80's and early 90's. of course, Colorado has great support for the Avalanche but just wonder would happen if Quebec had TWO

TEAMS like back in the days? shit....  if Florida has the Lightning and Panthers, what the fuck, Canada? yes, i am Chinese American

and Canadian with best of the both worlds. California has the Kings, Ducks and Sharks and people don't even know what Hockey really

is compared to us Crazy Canooks.....  yeh-a...      of course, there are some NHL FANS around here but everyone loves

the Lakers, Dodgers, Angels, Clippers and Disneyland more than HOCKEY.....   hehe...  sorry guys, but when it comes to HOCKEY...

GO CANADA.....  and YES.......   GO VANCOUVER CANUCKS....  yes, i know that it's 2-2 series but it's NOT OVER UNTIL LORD

STANLEY IS LIFTED......   plus, since that "yellow and gold team" knocked the HABS out and FUCKING CHARRA hit MAX......  boston

can rot in HELL......  the only two great things about boston are the RED SOX (go Matsuzaka and David Ortiz - Pappi) and MARK

RECCHI......  fuck everthing else....   oh, by the way...   Welcome Back Winnipeg Jets.....  bienvenue au Canada...

Before I die, the Vancouver Canucks have to win at least one Stanley Cup.

Then I can die in peace...

But I know the Canucks all too well... I won't be getting my hopes up.

Latest rumour is that the NHL offered an olive branch to Jim Basille.  Of course both sides are denying it.

RIM has been a large sponsor of the NHL but then again the PlayBook just came out this year.

free i hope you are enjoying you restricted access 30. hope you are seeing some mind blowing stuff.

i guess we will have to wait and see the jets in action. there is one thing though can they be called the jets again. do they own the rights to the name.

well the canucks won 1-0. i have to say the goalie for the nucks is the big hero when it comes to home games cause he has been simply amazing. now on the road he isn't so good. that's why they call it home ice. funny some road teams won't eat food in the home team's city. they have a fear of being made sick which would hinder their playing ability.

if the nucks win it then i have to say canadian sports is on the rise big time. i wonder in the future if pro sports will expand to mexico? maybe in the future who knows. NAFTA even applies to sports does it now?

I love the fact...

I've been waiting like many Canadians to bring a team back home...To rightfully claim back the teams that the NHL thought were feasible elsewhere and and make those teams feasible back in Canada.

I've love to see the nordiques come back but the chance of any other team moving right now doesn't seem likely.  The economy in Canada has been improving but we can't be sure what the future holds for NHL even if they do make it work in Winnipeg.

Good luck JETS!

I wouldn't want to see another idiotic riot; while other countries like egypt, yemen or libya riot for a good cause for freedom, vancouverians rioted for a game. For fuck sakes im ashamed of where im from.

They DID call it the Jets. Changed the logo tho.

Winterpeg will be just fine as a Hockey market. It wasn't unsustainable last time. Owners buggered it up. there are a few fairly sizeable larger companies now that should be able to support it from the commercial end. And fan support never left.

As for American markets....Has very little to do with the Dollar. When you're in a new market, you can't grow if you can't win. And a big big BIG mistake of the collective bargaining agreement in having a cap floor, is causing too many teams to lose too much money.
