Kay or K?

Recently heard a Mainland Chinese girl mention a drug she called K, pronounced kay like the letter. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

Bad shit

Ketamine. It is some kind of relaxant for horses and I have been told it is dangerous especially as there is a lot of impure
stuff around.

Thanks for all the feedback. Obviously the girl needs to get her head straight. In cases like this it's best to gently give a few words of advice and walk away. Too bad, because she's a nice person - doesn't even smoke.

Taking drugs (especially non-prescription types) is usually bad news. Hope she can ease off the stuff and get her life back.

Yeah...Ketamines are bad news. They're a real problem in Hong Kong, because the younger (clubbing) generation seem to be completely addicted to it. Usually referred to as "K" or K-jai" (in pill form).

Tell her to try Piritons. They're legal and I find them really good for long-haul flights.

I was at a club in Hong Kong a while ago. People are snorting and talking about K. It looked an awful lot like cocaine...

Ketamine does Not make you hyperactive

It is a dissociative anesthetic that shuts off the brain from the body. With the brain no longer processing information from the nerve pathways, awareness expands resulting in a hallucinogenic state. Humans aren't treated with this drug anymore but some animals still are, hence the nickname of horse tranquilizer.
E is a stimulant (caffeine, cocaine), ketamine is a hallucinogen (marijuana, shrooms)..they are nowhere near equivalent
However, K at low doses IS a mild albeit weird stimulant. But chances are a person out clubbing and having fun will not say hm, I better be responsible about my drug intake. No, I would say most people don't limit themselves to a low dose but take medium to high doses, and that's when it becomes a powerful paralysing psychedelic.
The danger is that many young people take the drug in clubs and discos, but the effect is the brain basically forgets about the body so you end up stumbling around, making you a prime target for accidents to happen.

K is not physically addictive but it can become habit-forming psychologically.
The danger is not the drug itself. In fact, thanks to its uses in medicine K is relatively safe compared to other recreational drugs. The danger is when it's taken outside the home because a person is likely to fall down, get run over, or at least make a complete fool of himself.
If anyone knows anyone else who does K, maybe it might be hard to talk them out of it but please stress to them the importance of doing it indoors, preferably in their own homes.

I hope none of these items are illegal in HK. We don't want to promote the usage of illegal drugs in the forum.

Unless you're a drug dealer I don't think anyone would want to actively promote the usage of illegal drugs on this forum or anywhere else
At the same time, however, we must also concede the fact that deeming a substance illegal is not a very useful deterrent
As we all well know, if there is a demand there will be a supply, legal or not
The prohibition act in the U.S. did nothing to curtail alcohol consumption. If anything it gave rise to an unprecedented power of the mafia.
So the best thing we can do is to correct any misinformation out there and educate those around us the best we can as to the facts of the drugs. Not only the sought after effects but also the dangers.
Merely labelling it dangerous or illegal may even be seductive for some people.
I think accurate information and education would do more to stop people from starting and also to help users ween themselves off.
