And Bro, I agree.., it makes a huge difference to be able to communicate with the girl you are trying to enjoy.  To me, it is essential.

Although sometimes the chemistry hits just right and words become irrelevant, most of the time good small talk makes a world of difference. Personally, I am determined to learn more than just a few phrases in Mandarin before I visit.  I believe restricting ones self to just English is short changing the whole experience.  I would hate to discover a sweet, lovely PRC girl and miss out on a satisfying interaction, or worse even, have her decline the encounter altogether because we can't communicate. Unfortunately, many English speakers have a "superiority" issue with languages. They feel everyone should learn English so they don't have to bother learning another language.  I disagree with that philosophy.

But that said, I know maybe 5 words of Mandarin and that has not stopped me from having a great time with PRC girls who speak practically no English (well they do seem to know "Yes", "No", "Thank You", "Condom"). Body language does go a long way in helping people understand what you're trying to say. That and online/offline translators.. Try using google translate or something similar on your laptop or mobile phone and using that to translate any important but hard to communicate phrases. The girls almost seem to expect it when having problems. I've had more than 1 girl whip out a small portable digital translator.
