Places to Stay in HK?

So now that I have had the experience of a life time (Neptune II - Final Night of My Trip 23 Jan 2011).  I'm trying to figure out ways to cut the budget so I can visit more than once a year or so.  We have always done Japanese packages, flight, hotel etc..., but I know I could do them cheaper.

Here's the question, I know I can get some pretty cheap flights to HK, but are there some reasonable hotels that you guys would recommend?  I'm just looking for a decent, clean, place to bring a WG back to for some fun.

Any advice would be appreciated!

IMHO, the cheapest way to get a hotel in Hong Kong I know of is to buy "Vouchers" from a travel agent.  A bulk purchaser of rooms would re-sell their bought rooms thru travel agents, who in turn sells them to their own clients.

You should try to contact a Hong Kong travel agent who does this re-selling, set up an account with him and ask him to send you his listing of hotels as you get closer to the date of your stay - but note - you will need to PRE-PAY for these vouchers

what is your budget? the meaning of cheap is very different from every people.

The Empire hotel is quite nice especially if you like Neptune ;-) it's very close, the rooms are around hkd1000

Ibis hotel in North Point is not too bad, clean but a bit small, room rate is around hkd500-700

There are plenty of reasonable priced hotels in TST, where all the actions are, and you can take the metro to Wan Chai in 10 minutes.

I'm all over those rooms that are between 500HK and 1000HK, I just stayed at BP International last weekend.  It was a pretty nice place, close to the markets, not far from Wan Chai.  It was part of a package deal, but I checked their prices and they weren't to bad.

I'm going to look into the whole travel agent thing... I don't mind paying in advance and getting deals!

Thanks for the info!

Anyone hear about JJ hotel in Wanchai? My friend was recommending this place, but apparently it isn't a full hotel but a hotel that only occupies the top 4 floors of a building.

I have absolutely no affiliation with these two sites, but they are the ones I use every time I went back to hk. They are the cheapest I can find.

www.mangocity.com.hk (Chinese only)
www.agoda.com

Go to www.agoda.com for discount prices of hotel bookings.

One hotel I stayed in was Prudential Hotel, above the Jordan train station. It was about $1300 per night, booked from Agoda. If you booked at the counter it would costyou $2200.

Another good one was Park Hotel at Tsim Sha Tsui. Only $800 if you book early.
Very good value!

Try asiatravel.com or ctrip.com.   Many hotel deals on offer and cheaper than going direct

agoda doesn't always have the cheapest rate.
It depends on the date and hotel.
Also, agoda is prepay and there is a $15 cancellation fee.
booking.com is my favorite. you pay when you checkout and in most cases, no cancellation fee if you cancel within 48 hours.
Use tripadvisor search engine. It will check all those sites (agoda, ctrip, booking...) and pick the one with the best rate.

I also used booking.com

I found a lot of hotels there that were not available on expedia/hotwire/priceline etc.
