iPhone4 Availability?

Does anyone know what the deal is with Apple?  iPhone4 is available overnight in many countries' Apple store but haven't been (Currently Unavailable) in HK for a couple months now?

I was holding out as I had my iPhone 3GS replaced right before it came out but now, its broken again.  I won't pay for a new 3GS and won't pay 30% more than retail price in the gray market and won't extend my contract on my shitty provider because I want to go to another network once my contract is up.

If anyone has any insight in this, it would be very much appreciated.  I'm guessing there has to be loads of info on this but written in Chinese.

Thanks in advance

For now, there does not seem to be an end in sight as to when the Apple store in HK will reopen its online sale of Iphone 4's.

However, since it was made unavailable on October 22nd, the online store has opened Iphone 4 sales in HK twice for only an hour each time on November 18th and December 10th. So there is some element of luck involved and right timing if you want to order it online.

There is also the availability of Iphone 4's in Fortress every now and then. But there is still a line, and it is limited supply, and I don't know how they decide which stores would get the supply.

I think all other options will require a contract, or cost at least $6700 which is the current market price in HK

Thanks for the info.  Every time I go to Fortress or Broadway I ask but never had any luck.

As you said, its a matter of luck.  I'll just keep my figures crossed that I get lucky or my phone lasts until iPhone5 comes out.

Cheers

My GF wanted an iPhone4 and I had to pay $900 extra (for a headset and a case) to get one at Broadway.  With all the tourists from China trying to buy the phone, they are gone fast.

Probably the tourists - a couple of months before Xmas the phone companies could deliver an iphone next day, free with a (very reasonable) contract.  Almost like they were trying to shift stock, no sign of rationing or stockouts.

Ipad is also hard to find just now, especially the high-end model.

I was at Times Square a few days ago and there's a store there (I think it was New Vision or something) that sells Apple products. It's on the 11th (or 10th floor - where Page One is). They have both the iPhone 4 and the iPad for sale. Saw a few people testing out and buying both at the time.

What sort of premium were they asking for the iPhone and iPad at Times Square? The demand from the mainland does not seem to be ebbing as I get calls from all so many mainland friends. All they want is the iPhone.

Did parts from a new iPhone model (briefly) appear on YouTube?

I have heard a new Iphone will be around Feb 14.

=============================
The odds are resoundingly against any surprise CES announcements concerning Apple’s iPhone (Apple will reportedly wait to around Valentine’s Day for that). But that’s not stopping a new wave of iPhone speculation fueled by leaked photos  and videos that seem to show parts belonging to a device that is very similar an iPhone 4 — but not quite.

Several iPhone repair and parts companies claim to have somehow gotten a hold of parts that belong to a new model of iPhone. The website GlobalDirectParts.com posted a video to YouTube yesterday that appeared to show a bare metal iPhone chassis. Earlier today, the video was yanked indicating a complaint from Apple.

[Related: Hot gadgets to look for in 2011]

How the companies could have come into possession of the parts is as big a mystery as how an Apple engineer could leave an iPhone 4 prototype in a bar, but without allowing for alcohol consumption as a valid excuse.

If the parts do indeed belong to a new iPhone model, then it appears that Apple may have adjusted the phone’s antennae design to correct the “antennaegate” issues that initially plagued the iPhone 4′s launch last summer.

Another theory circulating suggests that the parts belong to a re-worked iPhone that is meant to run on a CDMA network — potentially fulfilling the interminable “Verizon iPhone” prophecy. However, it has been pointed out that the chassis appears to have a SIM card slot which would imply either dual CDMA/GSM capability or that it’s designed to run on Verizon’s nascent LTE network, which seems rather unlikely.

Another curiosity unveiled in the video was the absence of a rear-camera hole, leaving many to wonder if Apple is planning on doing away with a two-camera design completely or has merely developed slimmer parts that require less infrastructure support. Light leaks from the camera design have been suggested as a cause of the delayed release of the white iPhone 4.

As we learned from last year’s iPhone 4 leak, Apple is going to remain tight-lipped and guard its secrets closely until Steve Jobs is good and ready to say something. And until then, or until we see a leak of a wired-up model, we can only guess at what 2011 has in store for the  iPhone.

That's way too early.  Historically Apple has released a new iPhone every summer in July or August.  The upcoming Jan/Feb is possibly the rumoured for months iPhone on the Verizon network in America.

I didn't ask for the price as I'm not really interested in the iPad. But I did take a look at the iPhone and the prices were the same as the ones listed on the Apple HK site.

Still seems like the 4 is pretty new.   From a marketing point of view it seems as if many people would not upgrade right now since the 4 is best in class.  The only thing about the 4 is the antenna and dropped calls.  Curious that have not heard much abouthat since it first came out.   Also given that Verizon is about to get the iPhone wouldnot expect a version out ahead of Att.

Some nice products from the recent CES, so who knows how long iPhone stays being the preferred one. Of course we'll see the a new iPhone this spring/summer which may raise the bar yet again.

Have you guys tried Sindat Plaza in Mong Kok? If you know the right shops to go to in there you can get an Iphone 4, no problems.

Where I'm at, iPhones are common place and readily available so no issues here. While I have one, it's just a phone at the end of the day and probably more interested in the next batch of android phones.

It seems very early to be talking about new iPhone versions at te moment.   Right now they have the top rated item.  Look at blackberry as they started to introduce new models the earliest ones were te best.  For example the curve was a terrific item.  Then they started monkeying with it and screwed it up by missing that that item was itself terrific and building off it.  Now I'm not even sure where blackberry stands.  Will it be the next palm.   So apple has alot at stake but cementing it's position with the 4 makes sense.

The Blackberry is still a great smartphone.  I was originally going to get one and only chose the iPhone (at the time the 3GS was just announced) because I was used to my iPod and iTunes and didn't want to carry multiple devices.  The apps are a nice bonus but the thing that really converted me was how responsive the touch screen is.  It's difficult using anything that's not touch anymore the iPhone is that good.

One thing about the touchscreen is that it does not work if you wear gloves.  It mist be super heat sensitive and work off of that.  So if you are outside and using te phone or it's map for directions need to remove you glove. Guess nothings perfect. Not even iPhone.

I always thought it's easy to buy an iphone in HK. Are there any reseller store? Since i going to HK this Feb, and definitely buy one, so if you got any helpful tips, please advise.
