Recover deleted photos from memory card

I was asked by atomic3d to start a thread on how to do this since some wg asks bros to delete pics on their camera that they do not like.

Theres a lot of utilities to recover lost data, just try google and you'll find plenty of them.

Most are shareware or commercial with a trying period.

Actually, when you delete a file,it is not really removed : the system just delete it from the list of existing file. So as long as
a new file is not written over your old one, chances are to recover it. However, you should not use you memory card until you recover the data you are looking for are.

This is useful info as I have more than once accidentally erased vital data from an SD card. I don't usually do backup of photos and actually keep most of my photos here on this website as an archive. Hope this website doesn't get wiped out one day but alas, these are only memories of WGs, not of family,  friends  or civi girlfriends so not such a big loss.

Yes, software for a Mac would be useful as I too use a Mac.

Try buying an external hard drive and save everything to that. I save not only my WG pics and reports, but TV shows, movies, etc. stops my computer getting clogged with data.

Just be sure not to post the pics that the WG didn't want to see.  She deleted them for a reason...

Most woman don't know what they want when they're young and fuckable. You and I see a pic of a hot young thing, they see the microscopic pimple on their ass.

We may not be able to post it on the site, but believe me 10-20 years down the track, when they're a middle aged saggy mess, they'll give you a freebie for a copy of what used to be.

File recovery

I use "Recover4All", which saved some important files a couple times (Windows). It's teaseware - the free version will show you what it would be able to recover, but not recover it. I paid up, and keep a copy of it on my laptop and a memory stick, just in case. Kinda expensive, but hey, worth it when you need to get a pix back.

And don't be a jerk - if she wants it deleted, make sure you keep it private. Best way I've found is to use "TrueCrypt" to make an encrypted partition. That way, even if someone steals your computer, the records never become public.

I just joined this forum, after lurking for years. Thanks to the people who run it - I love it, and the work you put into it. Hope someday to get enough karma to see the "good" pix. Having to censor the public pix (to keep your government censors happy?) takes a little fun away.

Yes, external HD's are brilliant these days. Remember the old days when we had to decide between 3.5" and 5 1/4" floppy drives that stored a massive 1.2-1.44mb of data?

I use Western Digital external hard drives for pictures, movies, music and tv shows and they are great. I have 1TB and 1.5TB versions. Not sure how much they are now but they were only around HKD700-1000 in SSP when I bought them previously

You can store a lot of porn on a 1.5TB drive!

I've had some real problems with WD disks - I've got a pile of dead drives, and almost all are WD. Had much better luck with Seagate. Now they are so cheap I buy a backup drive instead of trying to save stuff to DVDs. Speaking from experience, having lost some fantastic stuff to WD crashes...

*knock on wood* I've got about 7 WD external drives mixed between the My Book home drives and the My Passport portable drives. I think only one of them has had a problem so far.  Fingers crossed on the rest as it would be a shame to lose the stuff on them. Not sure what the realistic lifespan on these types of drives are. 5 years? I guess in future, they'll be cheap enough to be disposable. Just need to make sure we have everything backed up twice in case one goes belly up
