I will be posting about my adventures asap, but I have a quick question for the locals. In all my previous stops I have stayed at hotels that included unlimited free internet access. I am now staying in a hotel in North Point and they are charging me $120/day, which seems just a little pricey. Now I am only here for a week – does anyone have an easy alternative for short-term prepaid access, or should I just stick to the hotel fee. (Just for laptop – no need for phone, etc..) Cheers guys, and sorry for being lazy and not using google.

Looks like PCCW is the way to go... (I can go and sit in the phone booth out the front of the hotel and surf 141 there!!! ) Thanks flowy!

I recharge it when I come to HK. Unlimited Downloads for HK$28 per day. Because I am in HK for 2 - 3 days, then China, then back to HK for a day etc, it works well for me. Don't listen to haroldia. There's been many instances recently of personal data being stolen by those using this free wi-fi. If you want wi-fi, better stick to PCCW. Avoid any unknown free Wi FI access you may pick up on your wi fi connection in the street or in hotel lobbies. More in detail there are two networks...  one open and one secure network. When you try to login to the open network, they tell you that this is not secure (and I suggest you really do not use it... is is sooooo easy to capture the data), and they give you a username and password for the secure network. However on both networks the best webpage on the world (you may guess whichone I mean, it ends with *141.com) is blocked.

#10 Post at 12-11-2010 03:34  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L If you travel a lot and like to use the free wifi you find in lobbies/airport/starbucks/etc, I'd suggest getting a paid VPN. Costs only about $10 a month and all your internet browsing will be kept private from ppl sniffing the wifi networks. Added plus is that the VPN allows you to access this site from China too. You can google up "VPN reviews" and find reliable ones. I've been using my current VPN for about 8 months now and it's not given me any problems.
