Another example of Philippines finest!!!

After the debarcle that was the SWAT teams mismanagement of the hostage situation in Manila, I came across this article.

This who have been to PI already know - for those of you who haven't, this gives you an idea of how the country works!

http://www.philstar.com/Article. ... ionSubCategoryId=67

"ANGELES CITY, Philippines  – The entire force of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in this city has been relieved effective today amid allegations of frame-ups and extortion of operators of tourism-oriented businesses here.

Chief Superintendent Leon Nilo de la Cruz, CIDG chief based at Camp Crame, told The STAR that he has relieved Chief Inspector Randy Glenn Silvio and the other CIDG personnel here from their posts after foreigners and other local investors, who have grown tired of the extortion, sought the help of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan.

“I ordered their relief pending their investigation and they will all be replaced immediately,” De la Cruz said.

Citing reports, Pamintuan said among the recent victims were the managers of a bar who were allegedly asked by CIDG men to shell out P600,000 so they would not be charged for supposedly employing minors..."

They should also relieve the Mayor, all the corrupt Senators (which will mean nearly all of them) and the President as well.

I think that is the problem - the corruption extends so deep that to root it out you would pretty much have to replace EVERYONE and start again from new!

Don't think that would work either. They did that with 'people power' and when Cory Aquino took over, there was still widespread corruption. Only way you can eradicate this is to start with education and jail sentences but that may not help either being the Philippines. There is corruption everywhere in Asia but the Philippines takes the prize.

after this sad event, it will definitely hurt the Philippines's image. but i think it is difficult to see they will do anything to change it.

i guess every country will have its problems. look at Thailand. aside from the restive South, the airport takeover last year and the recent Bangkok fiasco is a much bigger event that the hostage taking yesterday. yesterday's event can be described as minor if they had handled it properly, and no one would have had to die. Indonesia has JI and the Bali bombings, HK has the acid throwing, US has so many cases of crime and shootings in universities, etc.

being careful solves a lot of problems but there are just some unfortunate circumstances that no one can avoid, anywhere in the world.

100% true that corruption is really the greatest problem of most of the country.
It is hard to stopped but maybe not hard to lessen it, at least.

And that hostage tragedy will surely destroy the image of The Philippines but
it is revived somehow by Ms. Philippines by placing 4th place in Ms. Universe.

Plus knowing the Filipinos insane obsessions with beauty pageants, I bet the news that Miss Philippines came close to getting the crown will overshadow the hostage tragedy in news coverage and pics.

They did botch it up totally.
I heard on the news they attempted to storm the bus once but failed. Then they tried again in another hour and were finallysuccessful. Talk about losing the element of surprise!

It all comes down to training (and money). Hate to say it, but if it was the special forces from the western powers, like SAS, GIGN, navy seals, etc, they would have nailed it the first go.

Certainly doesn't help with their tourism now, always healthy when you know that no one is going to be able to help you competently in a 2nd world country.
