I just ordered an iPad online from Apple HK, though I have no idea why most of its functions can already be performed by the devices I currently have: MacBook, iPhone, iPod, 2 other notebooks, a Blackberry phone, Kindle. so if any of you are using it in some unique or killer apps kind of way, please let me know.

I have a couple of friends who have them and they seem to be struggling with ways to justify them . I think the biggest issue is that there is no USB port - is Apple trying to steer the market to completely wireless connectivity, or are they just cashing in on creating a product that is neither one thing or the other? The reaction of people here in Oz would suggest the latter - so many people bought them just because they are Apple i-stuff without really knowing what they were going to use them for. I just can't understand why you wouldn't just buy a laptop/macbook instead. I'll be interested to monitor this thread and see what bro's come up with - I'd be surprised if it is not just the same stuff that can be done with an iphone or standard laptop...

Not sure what else you could use the ipad for as i'm not really a big fan of it.. seems to me people would be better off buying a small notebook for that price and having all the features the ipad has.. The only thing missing would be the app store and the touchscreen, although you could buy a tablet pc

Plus the company picked up the tab for the device  Same functionality as the iPhone but bigger screen. Can also use it to make presentations and stuff for business since it has a slim down version of iworks. Can also use the iPad to watch movies either by loading to the iPad or by streaming.

#8 Post at 2-8-2010 15:12  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Reply #2 lister01's post there is an accessory that adds a USB port to your iPad (around HK$250). thanks to everyone's reply so far. at least i know i'm not alone. i really cant find a particular function to justify owning an iPad, except that everyone has it, and its a portable device around the house or in between trips to the coffee shop. i've got a netbook, another proper Windows notebook, Macbook, iPhone, BB, etc... i'm thinking of letting the SO use it for facebook on the bed hahahaha... keep your ideas and comments coming

Thats the sole reason he bought the ipad... Same thickness as an iphone so its pretty cool. I did read the other day that these pads were overheating easily in the US and refuse to start-up?

#15 Post at 2-8-2010 21:05  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L It's main advantage over the iPhone is the screen size.  So if you are watching tv andlike to play with your computer at the same time then can use the iPad.  Easy to holdand does not get hot in your lap like a laptop.  The weight and comfort factor are what distinguish it from all else.
