Language questions

I'm pretty good at speaking canto, but honestly never needed to learn any crude words growing up. (feel free to laugh) So my vocabulary isnt as... colorful in canto as it is in english. so please teach me the words my parents never taught me.

Let's just stick with these for the time being. No point going into anything else and encouraging other bros to list all sorts of profanities here. This is not the place for it and mods will give negative K's and so would I if this turns out to be nothing more than a thread for exchanging profanities.

To make it interesting I can add some historical facts. Cantonese profanity actually had its origins in Shanghai though in Shanghai today they're no longer use. My friends, whose grandparents were immigrants from Shanghai in the late 1940's still practice the ways and use the slang of old Shanghai. Every bit of Cantonese profanity has its matching counterpart in the Shanghainese dialect. I think Cantonese people were rather innocent before the turn of the century, mainly farming/fishing communities so when the Shanghainese started to head for Canton (Guangzhou) in the 1910s and 1920s for trade, they uttered a lot of profanities which the Cantonese then adopted.

This is curious but true and I know many other things the Shanghainese had taught the Cantonese 100 years ago.

If someone is always late, say, "Delay no more"
If someone is a bad parent and leave their kids on top of high places, say, "lay no more child high"

Did you ever watch any Hong Kong movies?

You can learn a lot by watching Hong Kong Triad movies, e.g. 黑社會(election).

Aren't you supposed to be monitoring and providing live commentaries for all World Cup matches?

WTF are you doing on another thread when there's a match going on?

I wonder if you know what live commnetaries are.
Do I write all that is happening in all the World Cup games? The answer is negative.
You are just too harsh and rude in your reply.
Are you a member of communist party that do not allow freedom of speech?

Come to think of it... yes you do, well almost everything!

If only you write field reports as often as you do on World Cup games.... is that too much to ask for??

It might be of use to have a thread / sticky with a few of the commonly used sexual terms in Cantonese (or even Mandarin) that would be useful in communicating with a WG. Not exactly vulgarities, but the slang for happy endings, body massage etc when it's not a literal translation.

Maybe my english standard is inadequate to understand your humourous meaning.
So what's the meaning of WTF then?
Would you mind to explain in details?

If I write everything in the World Cup, then you just wrote nothing in the field reports.

If only you write World Cup reports as often as you do on field reports..... is that too much to ask for??

Maybe I am a bit overreacted.

Sorry! I don't want to make any enemy but friends.

You should notice that I have just registered a month ago.

I am still adapting the culture here.

It's very different here with the Chinese forum. Although there are forum rules stated beforehand, but there are some rules underneath that are not stated.

This is entirely different with the Chinese forum.

I have find a lot of difficulties that have to be overcome.

Welcome to the english forum. There must be a reason for you to be here instead of the Chinese forum, right? Well, its not that difficult to fit in.

The only rule that matters here is: make meaningful contributions. We can talk as much shit aswe want but in the end, we also share reports of our punting experiences. Not just the "thanks" one-liner in the Chinese forum.

Your english standard not high? Me neither. Just simple english report will do, with pictures better

Hope to see your reports soon.

I have save some girl photos from 141 and other sites in the early dates and can share with fellow brothers.

However, I don't know which part of the forum that I can post or if it is restricted.

Thanks again for your kindness.

N.B. Sorry for the correction in which I don't know whether it is proper to disclose in this forum.

Welcome, alfredku!

I would be interested in seeing db pics of 141 girls from the old pre-PhotoShop days.
Just start a new thread in this Chat section with a heading like, well, "DB pics of 141 girls
from the old pre-PhotoShop days" and post them there.

That's interesting about the Chinese forum being run by agents. I was also reading a report in forum affairs that there are some on the Chinese forum side that would like to see the english language forum closed, they used some silly, spurious, racists arguments to justify their position, but perhaps we are now seeing the real reason for this demand.

I second mister's suggestion. Please do start the "pre-PhotoShop days" thread.

go watch the movie Naked Ambition.  That movie has pretty much every Cantonese slang word in it that you'll need to know.  It was weird, the fact that you had two very prominent actors saying those words (Louis Koo, Eason Chan) for some reason made the HK public pretty uneasy about the movie.  Besides, it's a great movie.

The wiki link mentioned above covers some of the basic ones, but doesn't cover all of them.  George Carlin had his 7 deadly words in English that you can't say - in Cantonese it's probably more like 20.

Try:  http://www.mdbg.net/chindict/chindict.php

It's a good English to Chinese and Chinese to English dictionary.

Growing up, I would often hear my father and relatives say "Ew nek ma ga chiew hai," a classic Toisan curse. Maybe I've grown accustomed to hearing it but something about the Toisan language makes cursing sound better, since it's "heurn ha" or ghetto?
