I think youtube and playboy.com are blocked in some places in China. Go and try them and if there are opened, the Great Fire Wall of China is down. In some hotels in Southern China,  141 and some other websites that I go to, are NOT blocked. Then if you go the the hotel just next door, 141 is blocked. I don't know about Northern China. I have noticed that some of the porn sites that were previously blocked are now avaiable like http://www.tube8.com/ so I'm not certain what's going on. Being a cynic I think what atomic said is right and its a monitoring exercise therefore will continue to use a proxy Keep on mongering....

He let it run for a few months collected all their names, closed it down and rounded them all up. Could be paranoia on my part, but better safe than sorry.

If they did there would be an uproar and of course the US would love to jump on the bandwagon and make this into another big controversy. Let's not forget they only recently jailed a high profile Rio executive in a closed room court for doing what everyone had been doing for years. The fact that they're not doing the same with facebook and youtube only makes me more suspicious that they're targeting we whom they would regard as sexual deviates.

Here's the latest trick I've learned about getting by the Great Firewall: go to who.is/dns and look up whatever site you're trying to access. For example, http://who.is/dns/facebook.com/ for facebook. Try an alternate DNS associated with the site. For example, http://69.63.189.11/ is working fine for Facebook. Hope this helps.
