Did the 10km only this year - Not the full marathon
In case you sign up for the Half or Full Marathon you will run through the western harbour tunnel. It has a long incline to HK side which lasts like forever. Even worse are the little tunnels and fly-overs in Central+Admiralty - steep up, steep down.

Homer suggests - go for the Half Marathon if you are sufficiently trained

I used to run and at one point trained for a marathon.  Nowadays, I'm just glad I can make it up the stairs at work. lol

I've never done the HK but I am a  Marathon runner. All marathons are really tough and the HK sounds worse than most. Don't even think about it unless you are already a serious runner, the training really takes dedication.

If you are not a serious runner then start with a few 10k races, then move up to a 10 mile before trying a 1/2 marathon or two. You then might think about a full M, but remember the training and the race itself is more than twice as bad as a 1/2 M, because you will 'hit the wall' at about 19 miles and wish you were dead.

Good luck!

I run & bike all over nyc.  Not afraid of bridges as we have them here as well & have experience with them. Never ran in a tunnel tho. I know HK in general has lots steep incline, so I was curious how difficult is the run.

HK marathon is still on my radar.  Maybe go for many many massages afterwards

Tks for the info.

Buddy of mine ran it last year and coming from the states he said the heat and humidity were the biggest concerns more than hills etc.

He's normally a 3h 30 min runner of marathons here and it took him almost an hour longer in HK.

Besides the humidity and the heat, you will be facing pollution too.  Sometimes the pollution can make it difficult to breathe smoothly. The problem runners have with the tunnels is the stuffiness as it is quite long.

You are training in NYC which has clean air and not so much humidity.  I would suggest you follow dave451's suggestions as you need to really acclimatize to HK's conditions. Ppl have collapsed and died in HK marathons.
