Caller display?

Hello lil grasshopper here...
I believe that this also a concern of some newbies here in the forum.
Do the veterans have an extra badboy phone no to call the papasans
or you dont mind using your personal no because the papasans here
are all prof?

The papasans in HK and even those from brothels will not bother you with calls /messages unless u are a regular and request them to feed you with update of gals.

Just go get another number and phone for punting purposes. Highly recommended. You will know why in the long run.

OK, hunter, I'll bite. I have no doubt there's a very good
reason for that, but could you be a little less cryptic?

Does it have anything to do with the SO, LE or what?

it's really a good idea to have a mongering phone. You dont want calls or SMS coming through to your normal phone, so it saves you any difficult to explain text messages. When you are not mongering just turn thephone off, no harm done.

The other benefits are you can have all your fave gals in your address book, you dont need to worry about deleting every text etc. No fear who may answer the phone should it ring. You can freely give your number out to all your fave gals... nothing to worry about.

If you are not a HK local and want a simple and reliable solution, do as follows:

Go to any Fortress store (major electrical store with retail outlets everywhere):
http://www.fortress.com.hk/fortr ... ;hf_rand=1189331468

They always have a couple of GENUINE budget priced cell phones that are not locked to any specific service provider. Last month they had a Motorola for HK$130.

Go to a 7/11 and buy a pre paid HK SIM card. cost is only HK$100 and this inc's about HK$60 worth of calls. You can top it up with extra credit at any 7/11. The phone number will last forever providing you top it up at least once every 6 months. Local calls are super cheap!

If you dont have this set up, I REALLY recommend it! All +++ and no draw backs.

Common sense bro.
Same concept with other things in life, different bank accounts different purposes or different dress code for appropraite ocassions.

Not only because of GF or Wifey, there are tonnes of reasons:
1) Disposable when shot happens
2) Segrgation of calls to avoid mix up. I have so many friends by the name or Mr. James.
3) Better control and manage your contacts
4) Able to avoid or take incoming calls at your convenience
etc, etc.

I always find keeping the second phone charged is kind of hard.
Since I don't charge it daily and when I want to use the phone the battery runs out.

Yes, I would agree it is easier but since no 3G services on those prepaid cards.

As of the moment, I don't have one.
But I constantly think of using a second one.

Maybe a brother can give me a few easy tips.

the charging is just a habit thing... if you are not a HK resident, just bring it with you when you come to HK, treat it like your normal phone and charge it all the time while you are in HK.

I usually put a message on my normal phone before I leave home saying "I am in HK, dont leave a message, just call my HK mobile 852 ........ So it becomes my primary phone when in HK.

If you are a HK resident, leave it plugged in but turned off somewhere, say at work?

since this is a "second" phone, no need for fancy features, just a number and the ability to send and recv calls and texts. More than enough to enhance your mongering...

For you to have a second phone because you don't live here is understandable, but for those who live in HK, having a 2nd phone is highly suspicious because sim cards can be switched out of the phones easily.

Unless the HK-resident here is involved in the China and international trade, ie having two phones is to minimize their roaming charges.  I think having the SO find your 2nd phone with all the incriminating phone numbers and texts is worse than she finding a memory card full of pics.

If a HK-resident is going to get a 2nd sim card, one should get one that was purposely structured to reduce international roaming charges for Asia (China, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, etc) plus has local HK service.  In this way, if the SO finds it you can say you got it so you can save on charges while travelling for leisure with your SO.

Of course the most convenient solution is to carry 1 phone that is a dual-sim card phone that can also carry 2 sim cards, one is your primary local number card, the other is for roaming in China, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, etc purposes.  Both numbers can be used to receive calls wherever you are.  SO cannot tell which card is being used when you answer the phone and you can choose which sim card (number) to use to dial out if the other side needs caller display.

If you wish, sometimes change the 2nd sim card to another purely local HK card just to spread out your charges as I know some ppl do this.  Once the primary card's call minutes plan is almost full for the month (the excess minutes charges are quite high), they use the 2nd sim card to handle the extra calls at the low rate.  You can let the SO know about how you are just trying to save money, and she won't suspect a thing when you put in your other card in to make those suspicious calls.

Most Bros I know have several phones anyway. From previous plans etc they were on. You know, old phones. Set up a pin number for access to your mongering phone, that keeps the SO out of the loop if she decides to turn the phone on, and lets face it, why would she? it's just another old phone.

then...

Save your messages and addresses to the phone instead of the SIM. That way if your SO tries to take the SIM out and put it in another phone... (and why would she?) you're still clean.

This way you dont need to swap SIMS etc, you just have a phone lying around in your bottom draw and you take it with you when you need it.

BTW, for any Bros worried about charging it, take your FLAT battery phone with you when you go out. Call into a 7/11 and give them your battery and HK$10. return 30 mins later and your battery is fully charged! Go have a beer while you are waiting!

I guess I have been one of the unlucky ones who only changes phone after losing the last one, so I don't really have old phones lying around.

I know about the fast charging in 7-11 but was just worried that frequent fast charging would shorten the lifespan of my battery.

If you're lucky maybe you'll lose the phone before the battery dies.

That's great info for non-locals on setting on mongering phones. Would the sim cards stop working if you don't top them every six months?

Good advice about the batteries. I did not know 7-11 offered battery charging services.

The SIM needs to have value added every 6 months minimum. If you do this, it lasts indefinately. ie. I havehad the same number for 10 years! So if you can space your trips to HK out a little you'll be fine. Alternatively, the newer SIM cards that offer roaming may enable you to add value from "home". You dont use it at home to make calls because the rate would be too high but you can add value from home to solve the problem. I can't do this using my SIM because it is an older one, I come to HK regularly anyway and I dont wantto change numbers getting a new SIM.

If you get a newer SIM, you could even use it to text a few gals to let them know you're coming...

Tell the sales person you want a SIM with roaming capabilities. Maybe they all have these days???

This is a bit off topic but know we are talking about phones.

Is it possible to get a SIM card from 7/11 that offers text, data, phone and blackberry services?  When I go to HK I'd like to have my BB work with my work email.

Also, you guys do not lock your phones so no one else can access it?

I tried to access the data which apparently it says you can, but I could not get my BB working while in hk since the BB server is typically registered to the sim card, so that's probably why it doesn't work.

Just like when you set up your BB at "home", you would have paid for the email, web browsing etc. You would have some kind of plan at home that allows you to do that. So your options are:

(1) contact your service provider at "home", tell them what you are doing and ask them what are their roaming charges, ie. usually a price per KB. Warning it can be super expensive.

(2) go visit a 3 shop in HK and ask them for a deal. Explain how often you come to HK and how long you stay, have some idea of your usage. Warning, your BB may be locked to your network at home in which case you cant put a different SIM in it.

(3) Turn the phone part of your BB off and just use the wifi feature. Go to places that have free wifi like Starbucks and hopefully your hotel.

OR

Do what I do. My deal at "home" has a roaming option that is quite good. I put a voice mail message on my phone before I leave hom advising my HKmobile number. I use my phone to accept email but not surf the web. I use my spare phone with HK SIM for all making and receiving all calls. If I happen to be at a Starbucks or somewhere that has free wifi, I can use my BB to surf then.
