Comments accompanying rating can be longer than 40 letters!

Just found out that the "comments" accompanying a rating can be longer than just 40 letters.

Yes, only 40 letters will appear on the box where you rated - but the rest of it also appears on the accompanying PM to the original poster ( when you check that last box at the bottom.)

Anybody know what is the MAXIMUM lenght of this message that will appear on PM?

I've always felt constricted in my comments when rating posts - and the poster probably also donot understand.

But now that I found out that I can write a sensible comments in my accompaning PM......!!

YES YES YES!!!!

I hope you weren't just being facetious.

I've only just found out about it by accident - And if my previous history is anything to go by - I'll probably get a few knocks from seniors who knows about it and tell me how idiotic of me to post this "great Info" up - info that EVERYBODY knows about already.  Yeah Right!!

Oh well

Well, given the limitations of the forum, you should keep your rating comments short and precise and not beat around the bush

Sorry - I don't really agree.

Now that I know that I can write more than 40 letters when I'm RATING a post, I will explain carefully to the poster why I am negging/crediting him for the post and click the PM box.

This IMHO is better than my previous notation which were limited to 40 letters i.e. Spam! Pls read the getting started section" is what I managed previously.  Now I will be explaining to him why I think he's spamming and what he needs to do to abide by our convention.

Please advise if you do not agree/want to tell me to do otherwise
Thanks

SEAJ
Ps What is your avatar?  I cannot see what it is actually/what it's supposed to mean.

PPs. I have just negged a poster on
http://forum.sex141.com/eforum/v ... id=16857&page=3
and wrote the following which he will receive in his PM box

"Pls donot SPAM/Read the getting started section to understand what is acceptable/good practices on our forum. You continue spamming and you will be deducted credits and may even be banned. Thanks"

Only ""Pls donot SPAM/Read the getting started" appears on the rating box on the thread FYI

What do you think?

And you have the ability to do that?  I don't want to sound rude, but you're coming across as a bit of a try-hard with those responses.

Not me - but you guys can AND do ban serial spammers don't you?

Perhaps you could give me a hand at writing a standard message to these spammers that will really make them aware of their error etc etc.  Thanks - I'd think that others here will also take note and probably also adapt!

BTW - your avatar is nice and friendly. NICE!

I think everybody should be able to see why somebody is being negged - transparency
is important on an open forum.

If you want write more, just do it in a subsequent post.

As for me, negging newbies is not my thing - much more fun to neg senior bros.

For one thing, I keep it brief.  What you see in my rating is what the person will usually see, often something along the lines of "Read Getting Started" or "See Getting Started - no oneliners".  I then click on the "Send P.M. to the Author", so that he knows where he's being hit and can see tha message.  About your PMs, they are long winded and the use of "our" in things like "our forum" comes across as over the top.

I partly agree with SEAJ. For one thing, it is good to let newbies know why they are negged and what they should do to correct themselves or face punishment. On the other hand though, if only one member does it, it really doenst do much to negate the problem but it is a start. Personally for me, I dont neg people especially newbies because they are still learning and getting to know the forum. It's like why say something bad if you dont have anything good to say. I only give +A's or K's if it appeals to me. Otherwise I let other members do the negative stuff unless I'm being assaulted then I got my guns ready for some neg shooting

Not to belabor - but why the sensitivities on the use of the word "our?"

I would have thought that it would be in everybody's interest if we DO promote a sense of belonging in OUR forum - for indeed that is what I feel about sex 141.

Am I missing something here?

On your comment accompanying your rating - do you not see that you've also resorted to a one liner to chastise the one liner?  And my apologies - but me-thinks one liners just cannot convey the correct message to the OP.

Now that i found out that you one CAN send longish and - more importantly - sensible comments AND suggestions to the OP - that is what I am starting to do.

Just partly huh?  LOL!!

I started out actually giving +A when trying to chastise the one-liners - until Twice pointed out that this does not make sense; and I agree!!  I do wish that we cud give zero A poinst etc but this is of course impossible.

I hardly give out -k and only give out minimal -A points.  More to "red flag" the particular poster than anything else i.e if he's got -A - he must have done something!!

Err.... not talking about you of course - and pls notice that I've given you the +4 A points you need to get to wipe the slate clean!! LOL!!

On only saying something when one can say something good - I agree .... PARTLY!

But there comes a time when a newbie one liner's got to understand that what he's doing is NOT acceptable - and thus I am glad that I now can write "longish" accompanying PM's to explain properly instead of the previous one liners - which really cannot convey anything.

i agree that something about the one-liners must be done but I dont think that we, as regular members not mods should be the ones to correct the situation. Let's say for example a newbie writes a one-liner, and a senior bro keeps negging him A points. He'll start to wonder why is this person negging me when he is not even a moderator. A mod is here for a reason and i just think we should just leave this part for them to handle. i read newbies one-liners all the time and I almost never neg them A's or K's unless he is knowingly and consistently saying something stupid and out of line.

I've addressed this point in post #432 in the fight club.

To me senior members should instead be the one to dock AND advise the newbie one liners how they're wrong/advise on how to proceed.  MORE (ALL???!!) senior members should be involved in this and thus a semblance of "democracy" is achieved, instead of the Mods always the ONLY bad guys.

Remember, Mods are also only senior members who volunteer to do the job - and its up to all of us to help them out.  To me. it's not fair that we seem to be relying way too much on them doing all the heavy lifting

The Mods can and should step in when they see that the guy's really beyond redemption, give him one final warning - and Bam lower the boom if he continues.

IMHO

SEAJ

Ps. And Jeez!! where's my thank you for making you whole again.  You ungrateful critten!!   LOL!!

First, to SEAJ... I agree it is a good thing to have the "option" to include extra detail. Bros who dont like it dont need to use it. Providing we are smart and inc a "summary" in the first 40 characters for all to see it seems fine.

Hmmmm.. strange how different pose/setting changes my perception of how she looks!

The first PIx - WOW!! what a looker/sexy!

Second one - errr... not that big a deal - a bit too dark, the nipples too and a sort of common - even farmish - face.

Me strange one!
