I searched and there was some discussion about Windows 7 around the time of its official release in here:

Now that it has been a few months since the official release, what's everyone's opinion of it? For those that have switched, is it worth the switch? And those that haven't, anything specific that you are waiting for or just some more time while the bugs get ironed out?

Much faster, and very stable.

If you have a laptop, you will definitely want to switch asap as it will extend your battery life.  Mine will last maybe 20% longer, useful on those long flights.

i'm switch form win xp to win 7 32 bit, for the speed, winxp still faster than win7. For interface, definitely is Win7. use Win 7 almost 2 month, most of the software compatible with win7. It worth to use!

Did you make the switch from xp or vista?

I am planning on switching my laptop from xp, but have to back everything up first since it will have to be a clean install. Not really looking forward to having to move everything around and re-installing programs.

I did the switch from XP to Windows 7.  So far so good without any problems, and it runs faster, I think it is because my computer is a 64 bit.

until windows 7 service pack 2 comes out. i am on the wait and see approach..
i really dislike the sending microsoft the data automatic on how i use the product.

I think Win 7 is just as troublesome.
Maybe i'm getting old and can't learn  new tricks, but it seems to me that Microsoft will never get it right.
Win 7 seems to be just another Vista in disguise.

WinXP is stable like a rock now, perhaps because of after so many updates and fixes over the years.
Nothing is worth compromising stability in an OS, (in my opinion)

Actually Windows 7 is quite stable, just as Windows XP.   With Microsoft Windows, every other version is a stable version.  Vista in between XP and Windows 7 is the half-baked product, hence its compatible problems.

This is the first time that I have heard of Win 7 being another Vista. Most of the reviews out there are positive. What do you think are the issues with Win 7?

I thought there was a way to turn the automatic data sending off or is not being able to turn it off something new in Win 7?

If you like stability, then you should switch to Linux.  Or, try Ubuntu.

i love windows 7.. however i had soem issues with 64bit and the black screen of death with my video drivers.  i went and switched down to 32 bit and everything has been great for me.

Win7 is great! I made the switch finally and it's so much better. More stable and just convenient to use. If you haven't done it, do it now!

Actually I switched from both Vista and XP.  In both cases I just reinstalled since I like to make a mirror of my install so I can easily recover if something happens.  5 minutes later and my OS is refreshed with all the important software installed.  

Some of the comments on the thread are correct though, it would pay to check if you have the proper 64 bit drivers for your hardware, else you may have to resort to the 32 bit version.  Laptops, you should pay special note to.  My Fujitsu S6520 went crazy with the 64 bit but is rock steady with 32 bit.  Gotta love it.

And forget about Ubuntu/Linux.  People who suggest that don't actually do real work, or are so technical that setting up the OS and then bragging about how awesome it is defines the entire experience.  I used to be one of those people until I grew up and realized there was no applications relevant to the real world that ran on Linux.

There are some teething issues with windows 7 64-bit for applications. This also includes iTunes and iPhone - backup and restore issues.

Anyways, I agree with everyone that windows 7 is better than Vista and XP in termsof performance and stability especially or laptops...

Looks like there are quite a few issues with Windows 7...I think i will stay with old faithful....She's not done me wrong yet...

I would recommend Win 7. Installation is a real breeze and has some nice little features that XP doesn't.  Boots faster too it seems.

Only issue I had was trying to install photoshop. That didn't work.

I don't have the hardware for 64 bit so I will be stuck with the 32 bit version. Don't think it will matter that much to me since I have been using 32 bit this whole time.

How were you able to have everything installed in only 5 minutes? Also, what do you mean by making a mirror of your install? Never heard of it before, but if it means that switching to Win 7 is only going to take 5 minutes then it's worth looking into.

but the version i have is cracked.. so i dont know if i run any risk for it ;S

No, I meant I did a clean install and then made a backup of the system.  The backup can be used to restore the compute to the first, pristine state, so a year from now, if I've got some weird apps and funny behavior, it will only take 5 minutes to restore everything back to when it was first installed.

I think it would take you a couple of hours to fully have everything working, but the gains are worth it.
