What kind of shoes do you wear?

I personally wear generic tennis shoes all the time.  Do they make shoes in Hong Kong?  What the shoes old people wear all the time that slip on called?

Reebok running trainers, proper running trainers, anything else in the summer and spring are just TOO hot, in sept 2009 I arrived at Hung Hom (via train from beijing) in assault boots which went half way up my shin.

It was stinkingly hot you could pour the sweat out.

Life is short very...

I think it is called "Monk/Nuns Shoes" (和尚/尼姑鞋子)because all Monks and Nuns in China's Buddhist Temples wear such shoes.

I have many types of shoes, Dr. Martens, Timberland, Top Siders, Adidas and Nike are among what I usually wear. Such brands are cheaper to buy in Hong Kong compared to other places in Asia.

Sports:Various sneakers including Nike, Asics, Adidas, New Balance and stopped wearing Reeboks because of issues

Everyday walking shoes: Various mid priced shoes like Timberlands, Bass, Rockport or Clarks

Formal: Again, Bass or Clarks (I don't believe in spending too much money on shoes, my cap is 140 USD and they better be some incredible shoes to pay over 100)

Funwear: Teva!  I love TEVAs!  I don't think you can find anything better or more comfortable,... I have had over 20 pairs of the MUSH variety and a mixture of the other types of sandals.  In the USA, various websites will have them on sale sometimes, like the MUSH for 10 USD, I go nuts and get 10 pair because I know I love them.  I also bought a pair of strap on sandals at COSTCO here in the US for 30 USD and found the same exact pair in Hong Kong for no less than 550 HKD.

They are quite rare now. My dad has got a set tucked away somewhere...

I believe that they sell them in the older districts of HK, such as Sham Shui Po.

Sports: New Balance for running/gym, Nikes for fashion/casual

Casual: Tods, Cole Haan, Aldo

Formal: Ferragamo, recent Church / Herring convert

Best pair of casual shoes I ever owned were the first Cole Haan Nike shoes.  Unfortunately the leather was subpar and didn't last very long.  The versions that came after were nowhere as nice.

At first I thought this was a dumb thread; I mean, who gives a shit what shoes you wear. I'd honestly have
to look to check my brands.

But then, earlier today, I saw the craziest shoes on a guy. They had individual toes - 5 in each shoe.

OK, I checked the last pair of shoes I bought - GEOX.

Who gives a shit about what shoes you wear?

I'd say about 90% of all the girls you talk to.

It used to be your watch, nowadays its your shoes.  Even the waiters look at your shoes to determine what kind of service to give you.

So right, just the other day the sp I was with the other day was checking out the shoes I had on when I was leaving.
Once when I was in a shoe store the salesman was checking out the shoes I had on with a snobby look on his face.
I just turn around and left when he came up to me and asked if he could help me. I went to another store and bought
the same pair of shoes there. Don't these people realize their paid on commission!!

That's the reason why they look at your shoes.

They are sizing up your probable budget, and therefore their probable commission.  HK used to be horrible, but the recessions of the past 15 years have really improved their customer service.

HKers used to make fun of Mainlanders.  Not anymore.

i thought when wg's first lay eyes on your shoes, is to size up something else? you know what they say, the bigger the feet, the bigger the.....

ok all joking aside, it is true i find, especially in asian (superficial) society that first impression is critical. as they say, "first see the clothes, then see the person."

Sorry, I have to disagree with you. They still do but they do it very discreetly. Mainlanders still have a long way to go to be affleunt. In TST and Mongkok, I can still see the 'China Squat' and the way they talk it is like they are fighting over something big, they talk too loud. Not forgetting the spitting in places like train stations and such. They simply do such disgusting thing indiscriminately.
