Pardon me if I sound weird, but is the Chinese new year on a set calender, or does it float on what day it lands due to a difference between the lunar calender and the western calender?
The Chinese calendar follows the moon. The western calendar follows the sun. Each year, the date falls differently on the western calendar. Last year, CNY was in late January. Suggest you doing a search on the web for more information like yahoo or google.
It's estimated well over 100 million people go home for the holiday. They will reunite with their families and relatives. It is the largest annual human migration in the world. I estimate at least 60% or more of the girls will go home. Some will leave early to avoid the mad rush. Expect all types of transportation cost to go up during CNY. Prices can be double the normal cost. It's also much colder. The girls cover up more and it's a little harder to see their bodies. People will start to trickle in slowly. Expect things to be back to normal around late March.
If you don't know about Chinese New Year you probably don't know prostitution is ILLEGAL in China. Just before CNY there are the usual crackdowns. Also expect more crime. Both criminals and LE want some money for the NEW YEAR too. Overall, it's not a good time to visit China.
Two videos on the mad rush going back home. After watch the videos, you will know why people cut in line in China. You don't want to be the last one.
