British Airways staff calling a strike at Xmas

Well, i almost booked with them after vowing never to do so - and so glad now, my flight is with Virgin Atlantic.

Any unlucky bro's booked with BA? Does your insurance cover you for this kindof thing?

This is not an insurance issue, insurance cant get you a flight on another carrier at the same date.

A refund is do, so insurance dose not apply?

or am i missing something?

It gets messy since the airline will probably declare "force majeure" and hold onto your money in the basis of making their "best endeavour" by offering a different travel time.

A good insurance will cover all delays regardless of the cause, including a full refund of anything the airline doesn't refund to you.
But it's certainly time to book onto another airline before their rates go sky high!

Another reason why the extra couple hundred bucks for travel insurance is never a waste.

EDIT: that Response was dry, but just to share...
Don't be cheap, you never know when you'll need it. And if you boys travel a lot, yearly insurance is a requisite. Last year, I made over 5k in claims for a policy i bought for 2k...

Chance of alternative flights are low as it doesn't apply to other airlines.
It's a joke because it leaves customers to have no option other than accept a refund.
With hotels etc booked it may be hard to cancel the whole trip, meaning they'd have to find alternative airlines, and being so near to xmas, seats on other airlines will no doubt be sold out... those that aren't will definetly be expensive.

BA are a joke! I flew with them in September, booked a ticket and it was a couple of weeks later that they announced they would introduce the "pay in advance for seat selection" option in October. I couldn't choose my seat until the last minute and was left with the poor seats.

Since then, I've vowed never to fly with BA and will ditch my BA AMEX card.

I read also that cabin crew are paid around 28k gbp! What with working only 10-13 days a month then striking for payrise
when many jobs are going under is going beyond the pale.

Doing it for 12 days at Xmas......when i first heard it, my jaw just dropped at the sheer audacity of it

Yep, tis true. Double what Virgin staff get at less than £15k.
I don't think it was a dispute over pay rise but more over pay-freeze and job cuts, as BA are in trying very hard to cut costs, apparently not only do they pay double what rival airlines pay their staff but they also employ on average two more staff on long-haul flights.

It's been called off now anyway. High courts have ruled it illegal.

Still ridiculous though - there are many firms making job cuts in this market

Theyre losing 100s of millions of pds - unions may have some benefits, no doubt, but in this case we've seen how being democratic can sometimes be a pretty bad idea
