Hi,

I did a search for this on the forum but could not find what I was looking for.

I am flying into Macau during mid afternoon and need to get to Shenzhen.  I was think of taking a ferry to Shekou and then a taxi to my hotel in Luoho.  Is this the fastest and/or most convenient way to get to Luoho?  How much would a taxi be from Shekou to Luoho?

I am also open to taking a ferry to HK/Kowloon and then taking a train to Luoho.

What are your thoughts?

Cheapest way to get there is by bus via Zhuhai.. but it'll take a bit longer. I think from ZH to SZ is 3 hours?

Taxi from Shekou to Lowu is about 45 minutes give and take. I think you'll be looking at 100 bucks depending on traffic.

PErsonally, I'd just do the bus from ZH to SZ. It's cheaper and more straight forward. Just get on the bus.. sit back, relax read a book then fall asleep. Better than getting onto a ferry, getting off, trying to get a cab and get ripped off, etc..

i done these trips many times...

zhuhai to shekou by ferry takes about 60mins and costs 95rmb...take taxi to lowu never cost me more than 80 rmb and takes about 45 mins.....or if you have plenty of time

you can take the 113 bus from shekou port to guo mao ( very near lowu ) for only 5 rmb but will take up to 1 hr 20 mins.

taking the coach to lowu from zhuhai ( gongbei border...downstairs at the china travel service counters ) cost me 100 rmb i think and will take 3 hrs plus....

when i went last time by road it was a real eye opener....our driver was nuts ...overtaking left ..overtaking right ....speeding ...honking his way to lowu...

motorways in china can be congested...all sorts of things happen ...couple of guys had a collision and were arguing on the fast lane...

taking a ferry to hk and then taking a train to lowu in my opinion will take close to 3 hrs or more depending if ferry lands at sheung wan or china ferry terminal(kowloon)

ferry is the fastest way, easily.  Furthermore you won't have to bother with long lines at customs.  Look at www.turbojet.com.hk.  There should be about 10 departures a day from Macu to Shekou, takes about an hour.  Fare is $171HKD.  After that, you can either take a taxi from Shekou to Luohu (about 30-45 min depending on time of day), or if you want to be cheap, take a taxi to the Windows To the World MTR entrance at the end of the MTR Line 1, then take the MTR over.  If you don't have much luggage, this might be a better way to go since you won't have to worry about traffic.  In the next year or two they should complete the MTR line which will go all the way out to the Shekou port.

Good info. I always thought there was only one way to get from Macau to Shenzhen which is by ferry and then train to LuoWu. Never knew there was that many options. Macau to SZ via ferry and train shouldn't take more than 2.5 hours though.

Different routes and their estimated times:

Macau to Shekou, then taxi - ferry takes 1 hour; taxi around 40 minutes
Macau to Luohu via bus - border crossing and transfer, probably takes 3+ hours
Macau to HK, then taxi to KCR, then train - ferry takes 1 hour, taxi takes 10 min, train 50 min, then cross the border - count on 2.5 to 3 hours

Thanks everyone for your help.   I think for convenience and sanity sake, I will opt for the ferry to Shekou then a taxi.   I'm already spending way too much time on planes, trains, ferries and taxis on this current trip.  I should have some fun reports to share though.
