Obscure Phone Question

Couldn't find anything on this with the search function.  When you buy a sim card for your phone in HK do they register it with your name?  In Singapore they ask for your passport (so they can associate a name with the phone number), whereas in Vietnam they'll sell you a sim announymously.  What's the rule in HK?  Do they register your name with your sim card like in Singapore?

I managed to make do without a local number last trip because I was just 141 sampling.  But a local number is needed for booking Hotel Girls, (unless there are some girls/operators that will book by y SMS).

I didn't do it.  Really I didn't.

nope, totally anony...same with China.  Just make sure to pay the SIM card with cash if you want to be totally anonymous.

In the US, T-Mobile asks you for a first name and a pass code, but nothing else.
In Canada, Fido does require you to register your info, but you can give fake information.

ATT also asks for name and address in the U.S. but you can give them any name and address you want.  Just make sure and remember what you gave them in case you need something later (message indicator re-set, minutes didn't load, etc.)

If you are THAT paranoid just go to the Macau / HK ferry terminal and buy a sim card out the vending machines , just go to a 7-11 and ask for a sim card if you dont understand cantonese dont get a 3 sim card as trhe 3 sim card services ie topping up are in Cantonese only while CSL gives you an english option. That said I've never used up $100 I stick on the phone.

You should see Korea , they ask for ID card if you are Korean or passport, they then run a check with some government database , then run a check with immigration then run another unknown check, just for a prepay phone. Though people circumvent this by renting a phone at Incheon airport where you leave behind a massive deposit.

Life is short very...

I believe in Singapore you can also buy pre-deposit sim cards without leaving your info. In China too, you can just go to any general provision shops to buy these pre-deposit sim cards. In HK i'm not sure because i have been using my company's provided HP.

In Singapore I got my sim card at the airport, so maybe that's why I got 'carded.'  Do you know for a fact that you can get an anon sim there?  Where'd you go for that?
