If you are visiting the U.S. often then join theeroticreview.com  They have reviews on thousands of girls and cover most major cities.  They also have discussion boards for most major cities where you can ask questions.  This is where I learned everything about the hobby.

I am in the reverse situation Timbre.  I will be traveling regularly to HKG and need to learn the system over there.  The biggest difference I see so far is that in the U.S. you pay per hour and most girls will give you unlimited pops versus the HKG pay per pop.

In the USA, just go to craigslist.com and click the adult section.  Lots of ads there for adult fun.

This may or may not be true.  I was very active in the US scene for over a decade.  The higher-end agencies and independents offer GFE-style service, which is by the hour, not the pop.  But many lower-end agencies and independents effectively price by the pop -- it's one pop or one hour, whichever comes first.  

Another big difference arises from the fact that -- except for Rhode Island and Nevada (and maybe a few other locales) -- prostitution in any form is illegal.  Depending on the degree of public outrage and who's running for reelection, the police may actually try to enforce the laws.  As a result, the higher-end agencies and indies have rather stringent screening policies.  You may be asked to disclose information that you would prefer not to disclose.  When the lady arrives, you will often be asked to show your driver's license (or some similar form of ID).  There are long threads about this on the US boards.  In general, your information is pretty damn secure.  The agencies would never willingly disclose information.  They may be forced to hand it over to the authorities.  The mere possibility of that is something that gives hobbyists (the US term) nightmares.  There are scare stories that float around of police interrogating men at home in front of their wives.  But I think these are really in the class of urban myths.  I've never heard a confirmed report of such intrusion.  The cops are almost never after the hobbyists.  They really want to get to the agencies.  And most of the time they get the agencies for tax evasion and racketeering, rather than prostitution.

Because the act is illegal, you cannot ask any questions about service via email or phone.  Doing so willl usually terminate the phone call or email interaction.  That's why the TER reviews are invaluable...

Another difference is that payment is almost always up front.  No pay, no play...  And yes, once they have your money, there can be a real disincentive to provide great service.  You will see stories (to which I can personally attest) of cash-and-dash.  I've heard of women going to use the bathroom and jumping out of the bathroom window (sometimes with objects you used to own).  The basic illegality of the interaction also gives rise to denial of service...  claiming that the fee is for the lady to show up and give a half-assed lap dance...  because, of course, they would not commit an illegal act.  But usually they're quite happy to commit illegal acts if you pony over big bucks for their a la carte menu of services.  There are many, many great agencies and indies, but there is a whole subculture of bottom-feeders who prey on the unwary (who often include out-of-town tourists and businessmen).  

If you have questions about the scene in specific cities, I may be about to point you to a few other useful sites.

Someone mentioned Craigslist as a source.  The quality of the ads varies considerably by city.  I had great success using Craigslist over the years.  But at least in Boston, it is now overrun with pimps who blitz the boards with ads of dubious integrity.  You can still find the occasional great woman, but it requires hard work and dedication to filter out the wheat from the chaff.  We used to call Craigslist the "human cesspool."  The casual Craigslist user is probably asking to be scammed...

I havent registered for TER, but i've glanced at it. thanks for the pointer. i'll look into it. god you know, i love the hong kong way. If someone sells it, and someone wants to buy it, and it's not drugs or guns lets let them sell it. T_T here there's so many evangelicals going 'it's immoral!' honestly...you want fewer hoes? you need to improve education and services so they arent forced into it by their wallets.

Anyhow, anyone here tried streetwalkers? I realize many of them are druggies, but i'm sure some of them are just......soliciting for other reasons.

the common forms of mongering in the US -

call girl/escort services - the most common way in most parts of the country, using newspapers, Internet, or Craigslist
streetwalkers - certainly a dangerous pursuit for both hooker and john, but prevalent in many parts of the country.
massage parlors - this goes in cycles.  San Francisco, for example, had some of the largest massage parlors in North America, but that got shut down in 2005.  Some of the parlors still exist, though on a much smaller scale.  Other parts of the country have smaller set ups, usually 2 girls and usually Korean or Chinese.  Virtually all are staffed by older women.
apartment places - prevalent in places with large amounts of Asian people - Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, LA, NYC, Houston, etc.  They're all staff by 2 to 5 girls to an apartment.  A bit different from the 141 setup in that 2 girls usually man a room, more for safety more than anything.  Most places require appointments, rarely do you see walkups, except for the Asian-only places.
brothels - only exist in rural Nevada.
KTV places - they exist, especially in places with large Asian communities.  However, getting a little somthin' in these places is probably non-existent since there is a high investment cost and these businesses won't want to get busted anytime soon.

You never said where you're from.  I'm from the LA area and have completely given up on the scene and go on vacation twice a year now.  Before I would go to a massage parlour one or two times a month which was $100 for each visit.  When I wanted to have a better experience than a 35 year old Korean I would go to the San Gabriel Valley and bang a Chinese chick for 120-150.  I had some good bangs over there, but it was sort of far and the experience so so.  the best source of info that I know of is www.usasexguide.info  

Oh and on the street walkers.  I wouldn't touch them.  If for some reason you pick wrong and say the wrong phrase you can lose your car to the police.  21 years ago I did a few of them down in San Diego and except for the fact that it was sex, it was a let down.

I too would stay away from craigslist.  That place is filled with a lot of totally wacked people.  One of the options I like with TER is the ability to see how many pops come with an hour and the reviews go into detail on what to expect and what type of system the girls use.  They also have discussion boards that can answer any questions on the protocall to follow.

One problem you might run into is that many girls or agencies like to check refferences these days.

If you become a member, you get much more information including how each reviewer tend to review in the past so that you can decide whether you can trust the reviewer or not.

Beware that the law enforcement reads these web sites well.
