Last I checked, you can not drive in China as a visitor.  It's really messy with odd restrictions everywhere.  I've never seen a car rental in China, but would be shocked if there was one.

Hire a car and driver !  not too expensive
I wouldn't dare to drive in China unless I know the conditions and the way everyone drives there !!!

Yeah... agreed, it's like a video game and when one gets into GZ, forget about it... bumper to bumper is the norm, I'd be pissed if someone kept bumping me like the way they do it in GZ.

If you have reasonable chinese capabilities, taxis are fine.  If you don't speak any mandarin you can have your hotel write taxi cards with the destination in Chinese, but that doesn't work very well for traveling outside of the city that they hotel is in.  Cars with a driver from a western hotel are about $200US / day if you need it all day, much less for shorter periods and point to point trips.  Also much less if you arrange a car (or have somone arrange one for you) with a local car provider.
