I have a second phone

I have a second identity when I travel.

I have a cheap 2nd phone, a refurbished iPhone SE2022 that I use exclusively for this.

On it there is a dedicated email and phone number, with which I create instagram, telegram, line... accounts.

I don’t want notifications from Thai girls asking me for money to buy a new buffalo for their village popping up when my colleagues or family are around.

It also avoids that my main phone gets robbed.

All those are great tips. But I go even further.
I have an Android phone (fresh from the store bought with cash) that has never been on my own WiFi, the Gmail account on the phone is a new fresh burner address.
I had to find public WiFi in the city to activate the phone, and them download a eSIM I bought for crypto (Monero).

You can even get a phone number for the eSIM that works with Telegram and Whatsapp.

(I used to work in the security business).

Protects you from both the wife, and potential black mailers. Or if you live in a country where mongering isn't legal, this also helps.

Smart, and agree on this approach. Did that for years, and got sick and tired of carrying around a second phone.

If you have a samsung phone, they have secure folder feature which is essentially a 2nd android environment completely separate from your main one.  you can customize the label and how it looks so it'll look like a rando app or folder.  this is different from other software based apps that provide a 2nd environment.  it's secured by a hardware chip and it's the most seamless dual environment i've used.  hence never gone to another brand mainly for this.

That's an interesting feature, never heard of it. I looked it up, and it seems you can even install apps??
My main concern is apps, like I don't want to use the same tinder, what's app, instagram... that I use on my main phone, it seems that this Samsung feature solves this issue... but I have an iPhone
You're right, carrying a second phone can be annoying, but I usually just leave it in the hotel safe.

Some pros and cons of having a second phone:

Pros:

  • no notifications from home, work,... which is great to have a real break
  • doesn't matter if it gets stolen
  • no risk of making a mistake

Cons:

  • camera isn't great
  • needs to be carried around
  • no access to personal emails, which can be useful sometimes (I once needed my passport and didn't have a copy, it was super hard to get due to 2FA)
  • bank apps usually don't want to be installed on 2 different phones

Wow that's a lot.
If you're going that far you should also get a Mullad VPN subscription. You can buy it with crypto–Monero is accepted I think.
I guess you could also use a custom privacy Rom, like GrapheneOS.

But TBF most wives and scammer aren't that tech-savy to justify this work.

I forgot the most simple (and pretty important) feature you will need on your monger phone:
Privacy filter (to make it harder to read your screen when not directly in front of it). It's very cheap, and also functions as a second screen protector. It's even good to have on your normal phone to avoid having people peeking at it. Today I saw a guy in the elevator in that famous hotel in TST, chatting with an agent for everyone to see in the elevator.

I also noticed people walking around the hallways in corona mask and baseball cap, not sure that makes you less detectable, or make you stand out more, but at least there are others doing it.

The simplest things such as a privacy filter really do go along way haha.

I thing I will add to this extensive list that doesnt revolve around the phone directly. Don't walk around with your phone in hand, and shriveled up like a prawn to text the agent - it definitely makes you stick out. I understand privacy, but many bros are doing the same and it makes it easy to generalise mongerers despite our attempts to blend in.

What has worked for me, sometimes with hotel staff thinking I stay there is simply to look natural... Get the agent to message you and remember the ROOM NUMBER. Simply walk without your phone out, and look at the signs, makes you look more like a guest than someone here to do the you know what

Park far, keep a hood on until you get there, don’t look around like if you’re about to go do something bad. I usually just walk around and go into AMP’s like it’s nothing.

Smart move...

Honestly the one big thing is, if you look like you've done it before - it won't look suspicious.

Walking in casually, not peeping around and all that makes it so you dont stick out as much

Like most things act like its normal and no one pays you no mind. If you act figgity, constantly checking phone, not sure what you're doing then you draw attention to yourself. Generally people don't care as long as you are not impacting their lives.
