I know there has been some backlash against the Africans in the prc but in the whole the reception has been quite ok. I have seen enough Africans who have married locally here in HK and the prc as they settle down in the region to build up their businesses. True GZ is a relative wasteland (there are some bbs in the burbs) but at least the locals are so used to foreigners they are generally blase about them.

Here is an analogy for you. NYC is a relative wasteland for wgs compared to many other cities in the States. But the city is so damn diverse and relatively very integrated. It would be useful to go to a city that is diverse enough to learn about the overall environs before venturing out to the hinterlands. For the longest time I would never wanted to settle in any of other cities because of their duopoly of cultures; a white majority and a black minority and all the inherent deep but straight-forward racial tensions. Of course things are much better now because all the other ethnic groups have really spread far and wide throughout the whole country making everything more complicated yet actually more integrated by diffusing the racial tensions among so many other ethnic groups.

The smartest thing for him to do is to chat up the some fellow Africans in the bars, restaurants, shops, buses, anywhere to learn something about the local environs. It is only through them who are visiting or working in China that he can learn about where are the best places to hang out, eat, sleep, work, etc. People like to help those who look like them. It is only human nature. In HK I am amazed how all the ethnically-Africans all find each other in a very short time.

I have done the same on a trip in Milan after 1 week of eating pasta twice a day/everyday. I was craving some Chinese cooked vegetables and Chinese rice. I went up to the 1st Chinese I saw on the street and asked them where can I go to get Chinese food.

Yes and No, but my vote is NO!

Why would Tongue want to associate with a group that's already been labelled derisively? And that except for the color of his skin, he would have absolutely nothing more in common with them?

IMHO his best bet - IF he's gonna be hunting around GZ - would instead be to hang out with Americans - of whatever color; and NOT be associated in  any way with the Africans.

But this discussion is veering towards discrimination, skin color etc - which is NOT a good topic as such topics usually just degenerates.  So let's just go to another topic - say, MKK, Stephenmozza and other's offering of pics?  And something which I hope others will continue for the next 3 weeks or so as I'll be away from my office laptop where my pixs are stored at?

When you arrive at the office, you say "hello" to the same security guard since a few years who he still doesn't know your name and still do the cross words in the daily newspaper same as my grand mother, you just opened your mailbox and you have 26 mails unread from your boss and some bad colleagues who sent some emails on Sunday with the earth in copy : "Hey boss look at me ! i'm working on Sunday ! did you read my emails, can you answer me.... ???"  well, you know the deal : APPEARANCE, you do nothing on your Sunday except turn on the TV and give fish meat in the fish bowl to  BUT you sent this emails on Sundays, you are the man. In the lift your boss suddenly arrive, say hello to you then 3 seconds later he say "Did you read this emails yesterday ???"   (yeah boss i suppose to work on Sunday sure !, i have always my pro laptop on the sofa and still do my job at home) i replied a quick "no" and when i saw his face at this moment i exactly lost -10 Karma points from his scale   
5 minutes later i saw the colleague who get the best idea of the year to sent this emails, i asked him "what the hell do you on your Sunday ?"  he replied "why ? I just saw the TV and gave food to my fish"

PI withdrawal... I feel absolutely miserable.

One of the highlights of this trip:

It was actually a friends birthday, and this room we had was a big one that fitted about 60 pax. There were around 50 people that night.
Me and my brother decided to start the party by pulling out the 3 speakers that were under the KTV cupboard system.
Speakers were huge, and we could then stand on them and start dancing....

I remembered that we had to dance to the song "Low" by " FLO - RIDA" twice. Because after the first time, they wanted us to do it again, and asked
all the mamasans and managers to come in and watch for the 2nd round

I had one hell of an experience a little while ago hitting the barber shop in beijing during the daytime. I posted it check it outand read. I was good and bad. I think i fell in love with a chick name Jewel in there. Getting out of that place and not being seen coming out was IMPOSSIBLE. It was way too dam crowded outside, but before I went in it was a ghost town. School had let out, i couldnt just wait it out, this was one hell of a day.

It was a good report.

Like I mentioned there, GFE is somewhat rare nowadays in punting.
