Redang is off the EAST coast of Peninsular Malaysia whilst Pangko is off the WEST coast of the same peninsula.  Also, Pangkor and Pangkor Laut is not the same - wth the latter one being smaller/less inhabited/developed etc and West of Pangkor.

I remember going to Pangkor eons ago and it was then ...absolutely pristine....and quite desolate!!  Don't know what its like now!

OK – this is probably an opportune time to review what all we had been doing here – for indeed Twice had suggested that we should do a “review” at approximately half a year – and we started this thread o 5-5-2011.

FACTS
-        # Posts: 1446 – 3rd longest thread on 141 and makes up approximately 4 – 5% of ALL posts on 141 for the same period
-        Viewed:  23,358 times – 15th top viewed thread
-        # of NEGATIVE K’s awarded on thread: less than 20 or so

FAILURES
-        NOT being able to attract more Seniors/Mods to participate here.
-        Not being able to fully satisfy/comply to the wishes of a FEW detractors of this thread.
-        Not fully conquering the Seniors/Mods’ skepticism about our motives here, and the value of this thread to the overall good of 141. (Jeez – you guys are a tough audience!)

SUCESSES
-        Have provided a platform for ANYBODY BUT ESPECIALLY NEWER MEMBERS to feel at home, enjoy the camaraderie that exists on 141, test out “the waters” before venturing forth to other parts of the forum etc.
-        Have nurtured and guided Newer members towards what is expected of their membership here – in a polite, friendly and non-threatening manner.
-        Allow ALL members to still participate in our forum – AND extend a helping hand to others when required - even if they do NOT have anything special to report.

YES, we ARE generous with our K’s on this thread (and in other threads in my case), BUT, we make no secrets or have any other nefarious intent other than to encourage participation in our thread – and I think that it is totally out of line for TT to have stated that we have our own “personal objective.” Scoot, JacktheBat, ALL you guys who’ve credited others with K’s here  – you got any “personal objectives” doing so??  Ridiculous!
And I’d very strongly suggest that the few measly K’s that members receive here has VERY LITTLE BEARING as to their eventual success in reaching higher status on 141 – such successes being their own achievement by writing up reports and participating in other parts of the forum.  And I do also suggest strongly that their initial participation in the Idle Chat thread had precipitated/encouraged such post reporting/participation in other parts of 141.

On top of everything else, since TT had incessantly been bringing this matter up each an every chance he has, I have had to discuss this matter MULTIPLE times and I have yet to ever read that what we are doing “ignore the morals, the values and the ethics of this forum.“  

TT, from your oft repeated references all over the place about our Idle chat AND you repeated participation on this forum, do I detect that you at least have a bit of “grudging admiration” for what we ALL have achieved here? LOL!!

THINKS/WISHES (me-think and me-wish that)
-        It would be VERY NICE if more seniors AND Mods would participate here – for their absence indicates their possible (probable?) disapproval for whatever they think is wrong with this thread.  But if you guys think there IS something wrong here – does it not BEHOVE you to fully engage us here and discuss with us how to correct whatever it is that you think is wrong? Heck, I’d be very discouraged if all of a sudden/after the fact I find that the whole bunch of us gets banned or have our status revoked for not realizing that we HAD been doing something wrong.  Errrrr… we do have precedence on something like this having happened haven’t we?? even when I ignore the substantial number of posts contributed by you Joe, it is still an impressive result. This thread has promoted a casual and mostly friendly banter and I believe that of itself is a good result.


It's not because you haven't tried Joe, in fact you've tried almost everything. "A+" for effort. Don't get uppity about "detractors" Joe, no need to be defensive. The overwhelming result and message of this thread is excellent.


Another good result. Although there is nothing a member can do here that there isn't already another place to do it in, the relaxed and informal nature of this thread has probably made it easier for some Bros to get started, post their first pic, make their first comment etc. That of itself makes this thread worthwhile.

And what modes of transportation is the fastest?  Is it safe at night?

If your willing to splurge, I believe the fastest mode of transportation from HK to Macau is by helicopter.  Most people take that speed boat thing across from HK to Macau, if i remember correctly, the trip takes about an hour or so?  You can google the info.  Once in Macau, the sauna's are not too far from the port.  We are looking forward to your report.

@ SEAJ, ooops looks like I misread his question.  Probably cause I'm a bit tired, spent most of the day at Sh and Bj airports.

We were trying to impress a client so we took them in a helicopter, it was about 15 minutes flight time.

Although you have to go a little early to checkin it has a "private" airport feel to it and a lounge with some complimentary food.

It was nice but pretty expensive.

What methods have you found useful for learning new vocabulary and phrases?

I been living in the mainland for almost 2 years now and I feel my pu tong hua is more like bu deng hua...

It does not help that I am in south china and people speak zhong wen rather than pu tong hua but... such is life.

I am proficient at pronouncing pinyin and have started putting post it notes around the different objects I encounter but phrases and conversation still fuck me.

Of course the fastest way would be by taxi which should be about 15 mnutes or so crossing the 2 bridges to Macau proper.  

OTH, taxis are NOT that easy to catch in Macau these days, in which case, you can just jump in one of the quite frequent shuttle buses from the City of Dreams (where the Grand Hyatt is lovated at) to the Macau Ferry pier and/or the Lisboa area.  Ask the concierge where to get off to wherever/whichever sauna you're gonna go to.

As for safety, yes Macau is quite safe for the ordinary traveler - just don't go looking for trouble and you should be OK at ANY TIME;  remember that the casinos open 24 hrs/day and there ARE gamblers with large amounts of cash all over the place and at all hours in Macau

I think you mean fastest mode of transportation once youre there? Then Taxi is cheap and fast, about 10 minutes to all the ones you listed (Macau isnt that big, but you are about as far away as you can get from the saunas). You are on Taipa and they are on the main part of macau. Cost should be about 60/70 MOP max I would estimate.

The hotel should also have shuttle buses going to Macau though these dont run 24 hours, likely up to 11.00pm or so.

And yes Macau is pretty safe, as long as you use common sense as in most other major cities in the world.

I have a tutor but she keeps harping on my to practice everyday.  The tutor definitel.helps but the practice is key.  And  SIGH, everyone has told me the same exact thing as SEAJ, get a mando GF.

That's not gonna happen to me, but it would be fun if I could spen a couple hrs with some of these WG's and hire them for the Mando lesson experience!   That's taking GFE to another level!!!   

If you go online you can also find people who do language exchange.  They want to learn English and you want to learn mando so you meet for coffee regularly and practice.

And know what Just7? Our friend from Denver who's long term staying in CP - well, he VOLUNTEERED to actually teach 3 two hour English classes at that school on Swan Lake road in return for the same number of hours of Mando with one of the school's teachers.

I just had dinner with him and he tells me that he's picking up Mando fast PLUS he's having blast teaching the class - comprising MAINLY of gals.  He even got invited to a students' bicycle riding outing, a home cooked dinner at a gal's home (unfortunately the BF was there too - OUCH!) and tomorrow he's gonna play badminton with a bunch of them.

As for a GF I been trying to get a guangdong gf that speaks mando/canto.  Things just dont work out very well!  As for WG tutor... I am actually trying that this weekend.  We see how it goes!
