it's all about what you know awaits you at your destination... I have the same thing travelling from airport to Hari's Bar... a minute delay could make so much difference...

I remember when they opened the new airport... I was devastated! Kai Tak was simple, it had a soul... somewhat seedy but it had a personality. Plus you could smoke!!! which at that time was important to me! I liked the exit speed... Get off the plane, immigration, customs, cab, done! The new airport has a more sterile feel to it. Not so much personality. But the big issue I had with it was get off the plane, get on internal train, immigration, customs, train to Kowloon, taxi etc... I feel like I'm never going to get there! more steps between me and happiness.

Of course I've grown to appreciate the efficiency of Chek Lap Kok, progress I guess.

I am a Westerner TT - I have travelled over Shenzhen Bay for years now & it is the first time I have EVER been stoppped. Not just a bacon sarnie, bacon, sausage, egg & black pudding!!!!!

Know what guys - I think we should NOT be discussing this as basically we're talking about Civvies.

Yeah, the intent is to make a gal into a paybee - but I think we're skating on where the ice is too thin.

In reference to your specific comment about classical music in toilets, a recent survey found men are 37% less likely to wee on the floor while listening to classical music because they subconsciously use there "wee stream" to sway to write musical notes against the urinal wall.

With all this talk about super fast travel times, I decided to see how fast I could make it home from the Pudong airport today.  

Plane landed at 7:22pm, I was seated in the first row of economy class.  Literally hauled my ass out of the plane, walked as fast as possible thru the airport, luckily immigration was empty.  1st in line with no wait at the " foreigner " queue.  Passport stamped, since I only had carry on luggage, I saved ALOT of time here.  Now comes the horribly long walk to the Maglev ( high speed train ).  Paid for my ticket ( no queue ), waited about  1-2 minutes before the train took off.  Got to Longyang road ( green line ), took the transfer trains to my house.  I arrived at home in about 40 minutes, including trip to restroom at airport and Lawsons for some water.  The only way this could of been faster is if I ran thru the airport terminals, which probably wouldn't of made a difference anyways since the Maglev probably wouldn't of arrived yet.  

Now, the other weird thing:

My flight was from BKK - HK - SH.  When I arrived at HK airport from BKK, as soon as I stepped out of the plane, there was about 20-30 immigration officers waiting just outside the terminal and they were stopping all these solo thai girls, asking them for their passports and taking them away for questioning.  Strange.

Glad to know that there ARE others who's obsessed with travel times!  Product of our day and age I guess, when everything else just seems to move at a faster pace - whilst distances covered still needs....TIME!!

And howzabout counting stairs as you take them - you know, the old thing that's always at the back of MY mind - 2 steps =1 calorie burned etc.  I've always thought myself a bit weird for always doing this - and am wondering if there's others that do the same thing.

And as for the Thai gals - I think the Hongkong Immigration department is doing their usual thing of trying to screen out Thai WG's - especially those who are possibly "trafficked" by some syndicate or another;  These snake heads can be quite nasty people to deal with - and our authorities are probably just trying to do their part to curtail their activities.

From what I know, questions asked includes the purpose of their visit to Hong Kong (and you'd be surprised at how many gals gets caught out even on this first question), the amount of $$ they've got on them and if in their estimation is enough to sustain them for their stated visit purpose/during their stay here, the origins of such money.

And if there is ANY suspicions at all, secondary questioning includes a full luggage/body search - specifically to see if they can find the gal's notations of her "contact" when she arrives in Hong Kong.  quite a thorough job of doing it and done at random - but at increasing occurrence these days.

as SEAJ noted, this is no random occurrence. however, although i dunno how these TGs get into HK or how the snakeheads operate, i've seen more than a few Thai WGs here in HK (including the ones in NP recently). the gals working out of the knocking shops in MKK are on quotas, clearly working under an organized system and one who was particularly fun was terrified when i asked her for her mobile number. it's likely they came in via the Snakehead Highway.

by contrast, these gals i saw recently were far more relaxed, and were happy to give me contact info. it seemed more like they were simply renting rooms in a known establishment, and likely arrived as solo travelers, the way you described.

as one said she planned to return, she needs to know this info. i'll try to contact her. scooter, u said "solo" Thai gals--they were just asking to see passports and leading solo Thai women off for questioning. did these gals (i'm assuming no grannies) seem part of a group or were they all random? thanks.

Don't worry about some of the details - and just as long you point out that its a report of the past - and you come up with the details as best as you can remember...PLUS pictures, I'm sure that guys here will appreciate reading it.  I for one am curious as to the $1,500 price tag - and how she'd justified such a charge.

You may want to read up some of JacktheBat's reports on how to write up such a report as he's done quite a few "reminiscence" posts.

My rule of thumb..if they're too good looking, they're katoey. Or as one of Jack's concubines famously noted, "real girl prettier". Compare: "too good looking" and "prettier". It fits, it really does.

Patpong is really for newbies and those who don't know better. In my day of visiting BKK regularly (which coincided with JTB's), Cowboy was on the decline, and actually there were plans to tear it down and build something there. Nana was the placeto go, and quite a few guys (including myself) loved Clinton Plaza.

I prefer the soapies, I just want a detachable relationship in which consummating it in 60-90 minutes works fine with me. I don't want no girlfriend, besides, it's not like I could take her out with my Thai friends.

I frequented bkk in 2002-2005, and even in those days, i still felt the girls at patpong were better looking despite the tourist trip.  What was clinton plaza?  I never made it there.  

Unlike you, I enjoy the Go Go's, since you live in L.A/Vegas it's easy for you to go to a strip club.  Here in Shanghai we have no option.  Often I just wanna be at the go go bar to shoot the shit with my friends, kick back with some brews and enjoy the pretty ladies.  Then go home to fuck s.o. lol

Nana plaza - that place is actually quite a fire trap IMHO!

Multi storey semi-circle with only one ingress/outgress - and the crappy staircase system.  And its always so crowded with all sort of human/animal/merchandise detritius!  I can just imagine what would happen if there is even a very minor fire or other emergencies with everybody rushing out.

That's one reason why I never actually liked going to Nana although it does have the largest concentration of "action" and patronage.  Another reason is of course that I am NOT a connoiseur of the darker skinned Issan girls that is basically the only item on the menu there!

And hanging out at BKK's Go-go bar IS quite a pleasant thing to do - especially when with like-minded friends who is out there to just shoot the breeze and survey the surroundings! Only thing I don't like is sometimes the presence of the loud-mouthed, showy off louts that sometimes frequent these watering holes.  Arse holes first class!
