If you have an "unlocked" GSM phone from your home country, it should work in Hong Kong.  I suggest you buy one before arriving in Hong Kong.  You can get one on Ebay for $20.  

If you must buy one in Hong Kong, you can buy a used, dirt cheap basic one.  I recommend the street markets of Shamshuipo (corner of Apliu and Kweilin Streets) or inside the Chungking Mansion in Tsimshatsui.  The latter may be a better bet if you only speak English since merchants in the Chungking Mansion are mostly Indians.

The cheapest one will cost $200HK.  

With a phone, you can buy a SIM card which includes airtime.  Shamshuipo has dirt cheap ones where you get a SIM card for $25HK (all-in) at the street markets.  Just plug it into your phone and you're ready to make/receive calls in one minute.  I'm not sure how they can sell it so cheap.  If you're not in Shamshuipo, you can get SIM cards for about $55HK in retail stores that sell cellphones and cell service.


Tipping from HK$50 to HK$100 is common unless the service is atrocious.  It's not about the girls getting angry (you won't see them again anyways).  But you should tip for being a good monger.

They aren't illegal.  Everybody knows the whereabouts of these 141s.  After all, they're advertised here on a public website!

Most of these cops are also going to 141s when off-duty.

Walk up and see if there is a Please Wait sign or not. If there is one, it means the WG is busy. If there isn't a sign, push the doorbell.
